The Business Technology Manager utilizes technical experience, business acumen, delivery and leadership skills to lead a team in designing, developing, implementing and maintaining a set of interrelated technology applications meeting the technology and operational objectives of KeyBank's Debit Card Technology platform. This role requires strong vendor relationship management capabilities, partnering closely with third-party technology providers, payment processors, and card network partners to drive strategic alignment and ensuring consistent service delivery while holding vendors accountable to contractual obligations, service level agreements, and production stability standards.

Essential Functions

  • Manage a technology portfolio generally aligned to the Debit Card domain, including core debit processing platforms, card management systems, vendor tools, and enterprise data integration services supporting debit card operations.
  • Utilize technology experience, business acumen, delivery and leadership skills to develop and grow partnerships with line of business/functional leaders — including Consumer Payments, Fraud Operations, and Enterprise Technology — that enable the team to prioritize technology investments and set/receive direction to meet the business' or function's technology needs, while aligning to the enterprise's architectural standards.
  • Lead technology initiatives through the project lifecycle using the appropriate methodology — from requirements through development, testing, and implementation — delivering in alignment with applicable measures of success and milestones; this ranges from feature / function improvements through network mandate implementations, and platform modernization efforts.
  • Manage the 24/7 production support of debit card applications including vulnerability remediation and risk management to corporate SLAs. Ensure real-time authorization processing, settlement, and card maintenance activities maintain continuous availability and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage, develop and ensure the engagement and effective execution team which may include business analysts, project managers and/or scrum masters, engineers, developers, external resources and vendors against line of business or functional technology deliverables.
  • Oversee vendor relationships and delivery with critical debit card technology partners including payment processors, card networks, and third-party service providers. Manage vendor performance against contractual SLAs and drive accountability for production stability and project delivery.
  • Manage financial stewardship of the debit card technology budget, including project cost tracking, resource allocation, and support of annual planning and business case development.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable banking regulations, card network mandates, PCI-DSS standards, and internal risk management and security frameworks. Partner effectively with security, risk, and compliance teams to meet all regulatory obligations.
  • Drive debit card technology strategy by staying current on industry trends in general technology, card payments, and fraud prevention. Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and their applicability to KeyBank's debit card ecosystem.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • OR equivalent experience (required)


Work Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience (required)
  • Experience in the payments industry, particularly card processing, card networks, and/or transaction authorization platforms (preferred)
  • Experience managing vendor relationships with payment processors or financial technology providers (preferred)
  • Experience dealing with, managing, and adhering to regulatory requirements (preferred)


Skills

  • Extensive experience with consulting on development and delivery of new or enhanced business applications.
  • Working knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
  • Extensive experience with marketplace experience, developments and trends related to the organization's use of Information Technology (IT); ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to benefit the organization. Specific awareness of the payments/debit card processing landscape, including network rules, fraud trends, and regulatory requirements, is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with effective project management strategies and tactics and ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Extensive experience with the value of innovation and ability to develop new ideas and initiatives that improve the performance of the organization.
  • Extensive experience with quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Extensive experience with delivering new or enhanced fee-based software products.
  • Extensive experience with the ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for the development and support of applications.
  • Extensive experience with the ability to define, implement, make changes to, and support a production application.
  • Working knowledge of the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results; ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team.
  • Working knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Extensive experience with the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Working knowledge of effective team building techniques and ability to form and manage effective teams.

Preferred Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with the following technology components: mainframe technologies, batch data processing, database (DB2, SQL), GKE/Kubernetes cloud-native architectures and platforms.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $96,000.00 - $181,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
