The starting annual salary range is $123,401 - $145,177 for a 248-day schedule, plus comprehensive benefits.

Job Summary:

The Dean ensures the educational needs of students and the community are met by managing division operations, including personnel, budgetary, and curricular functions. With other instructional managers and division personnel, set goals, direction, and vision for the division. Provides leadership and participates in institutional planning and management of the college. Serves on appropriate college, community, and statewide councils, committees, and task forces.

Essential Duties:

Division Leadership & Personnel Administration (50%)
  • Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities for division personnel. Manage staffing processes in cooperation with Human Resources, including recruitment, selection, and orientation of full- and part-time faculty and staff. Ensure compliance with employee contracts, administrative rules, board policies, and state and federal statutes.
  • Make personnel recommendations to the Vice President regarding hiring, termination, and related matters. Direct completion of instructor approvals and faculty work plans in collaboration with the Dean of Instruction.
  • Administer performance appraisal processes, assign workloads, and conduct employee evaluations within agreed timelines. Counsel personnel on performance issues and promote professional development.
  • Serve as principal advisor to the Vice President and provide leadership in academic affairs and division management.

Strategic Leadership, Institutional Effectiveness & Governance (20%)
  • Embrace and lead the division in advancing the college's mission and core values. Align division goals and efforts with strategic priorities of productivity, equity, and quality. Collaborate with other deans and managers to ensure alignment across the college.
  • Participate in strategic and master planning processes. Lead institutional effectiveness efforts, including assessment of student and program outcomes. Define division goals aligned with collegewide indicators and provide continuous improvement monitoring.
  • Support faculty initiatives designed to increase student success and completion.
  • Ensure effective communication across instructional and service areas. Represent the division on college councils/committees and externally to businesses, industries, schools, colleges/universities, and agencies. Facilitate communication between centers and departments.

Fiscal Management, Resource Development & Grants (10%)
  • Establish priorities and direct development of division budgets in collaboration with department chairs and the Vice President. Participate in the annual college budget process.
  • Administer all aspects of the division budget in accordance with college, state, and federal guidelines. Manage multiple revenue sources, including general funds, grants, contracted training accounts, and auxiliary accounts.
  • Administer awarded grants and contracts, ensure compliance with approval processes, and evaluate program and contract delivery.
  • Promote external resource development, including grant acquisition, contracted education, entrepreneurial initiatives, and industry partnerships.

Academic Programs, Curriculum & Accreditation (5%)
  • Provide leadership and administer all aspects of division curricular offerings. Coordinate with Academic Affairs to ensure compliance with institutional and state guidelines. Encourage development of new programs and instructional approaches.
  • Ensure timely review of course outlines; recommend curriculum changes; approve graduation checklists. Oversee development of the schedule of classes, catalog, publications, and instructional delivery across sites and distance education formats.
  • Ensure high standards and accreditation compliance. Monitor and maintain program compliance.
  • Lead articulation activities with high schools and colleges/universities. Support division participation in student advising, recruitment, and retention processes. Approve substitutions or waivers of degree requirements.

Student Support, Facilities & Community Engagement (10%)
  • Serve as advisor for academic and financial aid matters when faculty are unavailable. Supervise recruitment and retention processes. Process student complaints in accordance with student rights and responsibility guidelines.
  • Oversee use and operation of facilities and equipment; ensure safety compliance. Recommend facility and equipment needs. Maintain relationships with industry partners and follow procedures for accepting donations.
  • Ensure an accessible and inclusive work and learning environment. Ensure programs, classes, materials, and web content meet ADA compliance and equity standards.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Incumbents must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in person, over the phone and in front of groups. Working hours may vary and occasional early morning or evening work is required. Periodic travel is required. During term breaks in the academic calendar and summer session, the dean may assume the responsibilities of department chairs.

Education and Experience

Education and Training: Requires a master's degree in a discipline, or related to a discipline, taught at LBCC. Prefer field related to a curricular area or discipline specific to the division.

Experience: Requires three (3) years teaching or related instructional experience at the college level, preferably at a community college; minimum of two (2) years supervisory, department chair, or equivalent management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Prefer experience related to division field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Position requires broad understanding of community college management and administration ranging from academic to financial affairs. The position requires a commitment to and well-developed teamwork skills, including facilitation of the decision-making process. Requires ability to foster collaboration among diverse personnel. Must have the ability to interact positively with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and community. Highly developed written and oral communication skills are essential; must be a good listener. Must have public speaking skills. Requires strong planning, organization, and leadership skills. Creativity, innovation, and flexibility are vital in working with diverse and complex job components. Ability to meet timelines and rushed deadlines is required.
  • Requires knowledge of instructional delivery and the elements of effective teaching and learning including accessible and ADA-compliant design of instruction and instructional or other materials.Must have a thorough understanding of division/program curriculum and college requirements for completion of degrees and certificates. Must have broad understanding of the purpose and scope of a general education core and assessment strategies for general education. Must be familiar with the preparation of course outlines and course/program approval process. Prefer knowledge of institutional design and academic procedures, general college operations, and administration, awareness of statewide educational reforms and changing skill requirements within the business community, and understanding of the external pressures and trends in community college education.
  • Must understand personnel practices. Must set clear expectations for employees. Requires an understanding of employee contracts, administrative rules, board policies, and state and federal statutes pertaining to personnel practices. Must have the ability to supervise others and to monitor and evaluate the work of a complex organizational entity.


  • Excellent budget management skills are necessary. Understanding of the legal requirements of the public budget process. Must be able to work comfortably with financial data and have well developed computational skills. Must have knowledge of established business office procedures. Requires knowledge of available sources for grants and familiarity with proposal and grant management processes. The ability to anticipate future needs and goals and to comfortably make decisions that can have substantial impact on students, the financial well-being and the image of the college is required.


  • Must understand purpose and operations of specialized equipment and safety requirements relevant to the division. Must have good understanding of safety protocols, industry standards and procedures, and efficient use of space and equipment to maximize use.


  • Must be computer literate, with knowledge of e-mail, internet, word-processing, and spreadsheets; ability to use systems such as Banner is needed.
