Job Summary/Basic Function
The Dean of Students leads all units related to Student Affairs within the Division of Academic Affairs, including Residence Life, Health Services, the Center for Career Exploration and Development, Marauder Leadership and Engagement, the Community Standards Office, and the Interfaith Campus Ministries services. The Dean of Students will also work closely with division leadership on student and staff enhancement, special divisional projects, strategic planning and assessment, and other University initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for creating a campus culture and environment whereby students are able to study, work, and recreate.
• Serves as the primary officer/supervisor as it relates to Student Community Standards and Student Conduct.
• Prepares statistical reports; coordinates the preparation of annual reports; and analysis and coordinates special research projects, including data gathering, and report development.
• Provides direct assistance/ support to students on issues related to institutional policy, departmental processes, student grievances and student services.
• Coordinates staff development for the division according to recognized professional standards.
• Assesses the developmental needs of the student population and respond with vision and creativity in the leadership and training of our students.
• Interacts positively with constituent groups, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents.
• Develop, plan, and implement staff enhancement and development programs for Student Affairs professional staff.
• Establishes office protocol and meets with individual students as needed.
• Assists the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in maintaining open and effective communication with the student body, faculty, and staff.
• Must be available and responsive to student emergencies that occur during and/or after normal business hours.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of current issues of student affair practices.
• Demonstrated effectiveness as a leader and student advocate.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
• Must be able to make decisions supporting the University's mission and goals. Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.
• Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree preferred plus five to seven years of relevant higher education experience.
• Must be proficient in MS Office and Internet.
• Experience with student information system desired.
• Experience with designing, planning, developing programs and measuring outcomes for student services in an academic setting.
• The ideal candidate must have excellent written, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, in addition to superior customer service abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
• Must be able to maintain discretion in confidential matters.
• Evening and weekend hours required.
• 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. typically. However, this position requires great flexibility depending upon campus and student events.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in education, student affairs, or closely related field.
  • Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
