Full Job Description
Position Overview:
Responsible and accountable for day-to-day oversight of manufacturing processes, staff and activities in the Operations area for Radiopharmaceuticals, Medical Isotopes and/or Medical devices. Responsible for supervising the day shift for Operations staff. Represents site management during the day shift, and may make critical manufacturing decisions with the support of the Production Manager(s). Contributes towards operations initiatives, and execution of projects to support the business.

Your Day to Day as a Day Shift Supervisor:
  • Responsible for the supervision of technicians performing manufacturing and support activities for high risk radioactive products under stringent regulatory and complex requirements.
  • Ensures all safety and GMP policies are followed by staff
  • Accountable for being on the manufacturing floor to execute their supervisory responsibilities
  • May review radiopharmaceutical Batch Records for completeness and verifies certain calculations and results.
  • May be responsible for product release (radiopharmaceutical) and for ensuring that product released meets approved specifications.
  • With support from the production manager(s), is accountable for the day-to-day successful completion of manufacturing processes with responsibility to suggest critical decision solutions and provide staff oversight of the radioactive and nonradioactive processes. This accountability holds significant impact on business financial outcomes (Profits and revenues) due to potential product loss from their decisions.
  • Accountable for successfully representing site management in the manufacturing area with a direct impact on business representation with the site union from their interactions with the unionized workforce.
  • Accountable for building a positive culture within teams under their oversight.
  • Accountable for establishing and maintaining work structure, as well as establishing and holding accountable operations technicians.
  • Utilizes technical expertise to provide training, guidance and instruction to teams.
  • Reviews and recommends changes to production processes to improve product quality and operational efficiencies.
  • Establishes and maintains the necessary interdepartmental liaison relating to this position's responsibilities.
  • Advises supervisor or other management of progress, costs, problems and delays with respect to individual projects or manufacturing processes.
  • Identifies system, facility or operational gaps that represent risks to ongoing operation or development of the radiopharmaceutical operational area, brings these gaps forward to the relevant area manager or director and aids in activities to address these gaps.
  • Utilizes technical expertise to lead, assist or consult in investigative or corrective actions.
  • Performs other related duties


Required Qualifications:
  • Normally an undergraduate BSc degree with 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have proven leadership skills. Ideally, the incumbent will have had previous experience in pharmaceutical, device or health care products.
  • Must have strong interpersonal qualities of leadership and initiative and set appropriate standards for performance to ensure staff is motivated to meet objectives.
  • Must be able to plan, organize and direct operational activities effectively.
  • Normally has an understanding of manufacturing processes and a good working knowledge of radiation physics.
  • Must have capacity to understand, interpret and explain complex technical production systems or phenomena.
  • Must be able to analyze situations and make decision often with minimal information and little time for optimization or corrective action.
  • Must be resourceful, creative and possess superior problem solving skills.
  • Proven record of making difficult, independent and sound decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of working with a union and within a collective agreement is required
  • Normally has experience working with GMP's. Sterile manufacturing would be an asset.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $$85,000 and $$129,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
