Overview

The Database Developer II is responsible for supporting the design, integrity, and performance of core data systems and workflows. This role is especially focused on leveraging deep institutional knowledge of our systems, data structures, and business processes to guide development, support QA and reporting teams, and act as a point of continuity during system evolution.

This position emphasizes new development, data project leadership, and architectural collaboration. It plays a critical role in data solution delivery, cross-team continuity, and issue resolution.

HYBRID/REMOTE: Tyndale supports a strong work-life balance. This opportunity requires onsite work a minimum of 1 day per week, and 4 days per week remotely. To be considered, candidates must reside within a commutable distance from our corporate headquarters in Pipersville, PA (Bucks County) or our location in Houston, TX (City Centre).

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal data logic, allowance workflows, historical system structures, and cross-system dependencies.
  • Serve as a lead escalation point for Business Data Engineers (BDEs) and provide mentoring as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing and documenting data structures, stored procedures, and views.
  • Maintain and support existing database objects: tables, indexes, stored procedures, etc.
  • Participate in sprint planning, QA reviews, and testing sessions as a senior team member.
  • Provide technical context to newer developers and BDEs, especially regarding legacy logic and business rules.
  • Support the QA and reporting teams by reviewing output for consistency, correctness, and logic.
  • Collaborate with DBAs and the data architect manager to ensure migration plans and redesigns are well-informed.
  • Support ongoing database work related to allowance renewals, customer data integrations, and audit trails.
  • Write SQL for troubleshooting, validation, or enhancements.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a data-focused role such as BDE, reporting analyst, or SQL developer.
  • Strong understanding of Tyndale's core data structures and historical data logic, or an adjacent industry with relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in writing and reviewing SQL queries, especially in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with stored procedures, indexes, views, and functions.
  • Effective collaborator - comfortable supporting developers, testers, and business analysts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while supporting larger team goals.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams preferred.
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation habits.


Preferred but not Required:
  • Exposure to SSIS, SSRS, or other ETL/reporting tools.
  • Experience in validating or troubleshooting systems.
  • Familiarity with version control and data governance practices.
