Position Title: Database Developer/Administrator

Reports to: Director of Enterprise Data

Job Type: Full time (Contract or Contract to Hire is also available for the right situation)

Job Location: Plain City Ohio - Hybrid work model

Job Description:

The Select Sires Data Team is looking to add another database administrator to the growing team. The Data Team is made up of Data Analyst, Data Engineers, Data Warehouse Engineers, Data Scientist, and Database administrators. We are working to transition Select Sires, Inc. into a data-informed company using data as a competitive advantage. Such availability, stability, recoverability, maintainability, and performance are key to support all data activities.

We have a mixture of on premises SQL Servers, Azure databases and Serverless Databricks data environment. If you want to leverage your existing experience with traditional database administration and help maximize the value of transitioning to the Azure cloud this role may be for you.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain availability, stability, recoverability, maintainability, and performance of database and servers to support transactional data systems, analytical data systems.
  • Proficiency in classic on-premises SQL Server, including T-SQL programming.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database and its associated services.
  • Familiarity with Databricks and its application in data engineering and analytics.
  • Strong understanding of database design principles and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of automation: Data pipelines, SQL DACPACs, PowerShell, Infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • Knowledge of best practices for data security, user permissions, and compliance with data regulations.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Knowledge of principles of Transaction data systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.


Requirements

Required Education and Experience
  • 3 years of experience in administering, managing, and tuning SQL Server databases
  • Experience with: On premise SQL Server Instances, Azure SQL Database and Azure Managed Instance
  • Experience with Data replication, including SQL Server Merge Replication Publisher and subscriber configuration.
  • Expertise in SQL
  • Experience using automation: SQL Server DACPACs, Data Pipelines, PowerShell, Infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • Experience with HA/DR SQL Enterprise is a plus
  • Experience with SQL Monitoring technology is a plus (i.e. Red-Gate SQLMonitor)
  • Implement and manage company data management practices and policies
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
  • Demonstrated experience in tuning database and its objects
  • Understanding of databases indexes and index maintenance
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Light to moderate lifting is required
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate
  • Moderate noise (business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)
  • Ability to work in an open cubicle concept
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time
