Senior Data Warehouse ETL/BI Developer (Hybrid)

Overview / Summary

The Senior Data Warehouse ETL/BI Developer functions as a senior information technology analyst responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing automated data warehouse applications on the Teradata Data Warehouse platform.

This position represents the Data Warehouse Team and coordinates team activities with other data warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects. The role also works with data warehouse developers to review existing policies and practices, modify them as needed, or propose new policies and practices.

The position is part of the Data Warehouse Team and requires knowledge of SQL, Business Intelligence tools, and relational databases to develop and maintain data warehouse ETL processes and queries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automated data warehouse applications on the Teradata Data Warehouse platform.
  • Represent the team and coordinate activities with other data warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects.
  • Review existing data warehouse policies and practices, modify them as needed, and propose new policies or practices.
  • Work with data warehouse developers to develop and maintain ETL processes and queries.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Communicate effectively with programmers, analysts, supervisors, management, system users, operations, State agencies, and private-sector organizations.
  • Meet with users to clarify and elaborate requirements, define problems, and develop development plans.
  • Gather, correlate, and analyze facts; identify problems; develop solutions and alternatives; and make recommendations.
  • Work with Data Modelers and developers to facilitate modifications to logical designs and create physical designs suited to customer reporting needs.
  • Design applications considering data reconciliation to source systems, query/reporting performance, and analytical business value.
  • Present gathered information with the Business Analyst to Project Review Boards, Project Sponsors, project workgroups, and Technical Review Boards.
  • Consult with agency clients regarding complex IT processes and solutions.
  • Maintain effective communication plans with DTMB and agency clients regarding project-level metrics and bureau-level project reporting.
  • Assist Architects or DBAs in drafting technical database models that comply with audit separation-of-duty requirements, capture data-element requirements, and support application needs.
  • Review and approve updates to systems documentation.
  • Gather, review, and analyze potential impacts of proposed legislation, enhancement requests, government requests, and changes in governmental processes or procedures.
  • Provide technical expertise to DTMB AS PMO Managers and client agency managers and supervisors for IT project estimating and budgeting.
  • Serve as a team lead and development resource by directing code development and providing advice and guidance to development staff.
  • Evaluate and identify opportunities for programming process or tool standardization.
  • Perform disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Provide input to procedures and ensure proper change management for requested production-system fixes.
  • Review and approve test plans and incorporate identified security requirements into test plans.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical study.
  • 6+ years creating Data Warehouse BI applications, including ETL/data mart development, reporting, dashboards, and other information analysis and delivery systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in Child Welfare Services, Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Services, or other related experience.
  • Knowledge of SQL.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools.
  • Experience with relational databases.

Preferred Skills
  • SQL Assistant/Teradata Studio experience.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction.
