Job Duties:Job DescriptionThe University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is seeking a skilled
Data Warehouse Engineer to join our Enterprise Data Warehouse team. In this role, you'll design and build ETL workflows, develop data models, and ensure high-quality, reliable data pipelines that support analytics across campus. You'll work with Informatica, SQL, Oracle, and modern data warehousing tools to translate business needs into effective technical solutions. Ideal candidates bring strong SQL and Informatica experience, a solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and functional partners. Experience with Oracle, Redshift, or higher-education environments is a plus.
Key Job Responsibilities:- Conducts assessments and/or provides recommendations of source connections options for access and optimal data pipelines for development. Develops and unit tests high-complexity load and/or mappings across a suite of tools and deploys to production
- Conducts complex data exploration steps, such as profiling, understanding data quality, binning, pivoting, summarizing, and finding correlations on multiple data types and sources
- Designs and/or builds, tests, and deploys conceptual, logical, and physical data models according to specifications and standards for document naming, security, lifecycle, and retention architectures. May provide architecture options analysis
- Designs, and/or builds, tests, and deploys the data cleansing, integration, and transformation of more complex data in accordance with the defined target data model, based on enterprise data definitions and quality measures provided by data stewards
- Develops and documents the inventory of complex data warehouse assets including adding descriptions and making them discoverable for business use
- Presents the results of highly complex recommendations to address data quality issues, and coaches lower-level staff in performing data quality clean-up initiatives with metrics and reports
- May provide code review, coaching, and oversight of the activities of lower-level data modelers and data curation developers
- May consult with data subject matter experts to document and address data quality issues and ensure data is assured. May support data quality clean-up initiatives with metrics and reports

- This position offers a hybrid-flexible schedule, with a minimum expectation of one on-campus day per week during the initial training and onboarding period to support effective integration and collaboration. As the employee becomes fully established in the role, additional remote work options may be considered based on performance, operational needs, and team alignment.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree by date of hire
- 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a closely related discipline
- Proficiency in SQL, including experience writing and optimizing complex queries
- Hands-on experience developing ETL processes using modern tools or frameworks
- Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, data modeling techniques, and standard development methodologies
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field
- Experience with Oracle, PL/SQL, and/or Amazon Redshift data warehouse environments
- 3+ years of experience designing, building, and optimizing ETL workflows and data pipelines preferably using Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services
- Experience with data profiling, data quality assessment, and data cleansing practices
- Experience developing conceptual, logical, and physical data models
- Prior IT experience in a higher-education environment
Target Salary Range: $85,000-$93,000 annually
