Data Scientist V

itD is seeking a Data Scientist V to drive data-driven decision-making by analyzing large-scale datasets, defining business metrics, developing predictive models, and translating complex findings into actionable recommendations. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of industry experience in quantitative analysis, advanced SQL, Python, statistical modeling, data visualization, and experimentation, with a proven ability to independently solve analytical problems and communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Location: Onsite - Menlo Park, CA (3 days per week)
Positions: 2
Duration: 6 months, with potential for extension
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, correlations, root causes, and opportunities using quantitative and statistical techniques.
  • Define business objectives, OKRs, and success metrics in partnership with stakeholders and establish approaches for monitoring progress.
  • Analyze key metrics at scale, investigate changes and discrepancies, and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Develop predictive and forecasting models using techniques such as regression, clustering, and classification, and evaluate model performance.
  • Design high-performance dashboards and visualizations that provide clear narratives while supporting detailed data exploration.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations through compelling data stories tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Formulate hypotheses and research plans, conduct experiments and analysis, and generate insights that support business decisions and identify new opportunities.

Internal Responsibilities
  • Attend regular internal practice community meetings.
  • Collaborate with your itD practice team on industry thought leadership.
  • Complete client case studies and learning material (blogs, media material).
  • Build out material to contribute to the Digital Transformation practice.
  • Attend internal itD networking events (in person and virtual).
  • Work with leadership on career fast-track opportunities.

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • 10+ years of industry experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
  • 10+ years of experience working with data querying and/or programming languages such as SQL and Python.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including data analysis, querying, joins, aggregation, filtering, and analytical functions.
  • Strong experience performing exploratory data analysis (EDA) and interpreting large-scale datasets.
  • Experience defining, monitoring, and analyzing business metrics and success measures.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis and quantitative modeling.
  • Experience using scripting or statistical programming tools such as Python or R.
  • Ability to independently identify root causes of metric changes and generate data-driven recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience developing predictive and forecasting models, including regression, clustering, and classification.
  • Strong experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
  • Experience with data storytelling and communicating insights through compelling narratives.
  • Experience designing and conducting research, experimentation, and hypothesis-driven analysis.
  • Experience working with large-scale data environments.
  • Experience defining business OKRs and partnering directly with leadership on business outcomes.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience required.
