Term and Location

This is a full-time role, and consideration will be for the Ottawa and Toronto Markets. For candidates in the Ottawa market, the Canadian Chamber offers hybrid work arrangements in our offices, with a requirement of 3 days in-office presence per week, with up to 2 day per week performed remotely. For candidates in the Toronto market, the position is currently remote as The Canadian Chamber is currently setting up office space in Toronto. Once an office is established, The Canadian Chamber will offer a hybrid work arrangement, with a requirement of 3 days in-office presence per week, with up to 2 day per week performed remotely. There will be no consideration for remote work once a Toronto office has been set up.

Summary of the Role and Opportunity

The Business Data Lab (BDL) at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce is seeking an early-career Data Scientist to join our established team.

Reporting to the Vice President, Business Data Lab you will be the analytics and research arm of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. BDL is one of Canada's leading sources of real-time business intelligence and economic insights and our mandate is to democratize business data and provide timely, evidence-based insights that help businesses, policymakers, and stakeholders make informed decisions.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data science, economics, artificial intelligence, and consulting. You will support the development of economic dashboards, data products, and commissioned research projects while helping advance BDL's AI, automation, and innovation agenda.

Working closely with our data scientists, economists, graphic designers, and external partners, you will transform complex data into actionable insights that support business decision-making and public policy discussions.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of BDL's portfolio of public-facing dashboards, data products, and business intelligence tools.
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that integrate traditional statistical datasets and emerging higher-frequency data sources to support research, forecasting, and product development.
  • Apply advanced analytics, statistical techniques, and data science methodologies to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that inform business and public policy decision-making.
  • Support the delivery of commissioned research and consulting projects by conducting data analysis, preparing visualizations, developing evidence-based insights, and supporting project management and client engagement activities.
  • Develop and implement automation solutions to improve the efficiency, quality, and scalability of recurring research, reporting, and product workflows.


  • Contribute to BDL's artificial intelligence and innovation agenda by testing, evaluating, and implementing AI tools, use cases, and workflows that enhance research, analysis, operational effectiveness, and the development of new products and services.
  • Support the development of economic forecasts, business intelligence products, and rapid-response analysis for events, media engagements, presentations, and executive briefings.
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts and findings through clear data visualizations, dashboards, presentations, and written products tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with economists, researchers, graphic designers, communications professionals, and external partners to identify data needs and develop innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of BDL's data infrastructure, data governance practices, documentation standards, and data quality processes.
  • Stay current with developments in data science, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, and economic analysis, and identify opportunities to create new products, services, and insights.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant work experience in data science, analytics, business intelligence, economic analysis, or consulting.


Technical & Research Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data science, analytics, and visualization tools, such as:
    • Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Azure, GitHub, and other relevant analytics and AI platforms.
  • Experience working with large datasets, developing data pipelines, automating workflows, and building dashboards or data products.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate complex data-driven insights through reports, presentations, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Experience supporting research, consulting, forecasting, or business intelligence projects is considered an asset.


Artificial Intelligence & Innovation:

  • Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Experience using AI tools, copilots, bots, or agentic AI to automate workflows, curate and analyze data, generate insights, or improve operational efficiency.
  • Experience with large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) and AI-enabled workflows is considered an asset.
  • Curiosity and willingness to explore new technologies and identify practical applications for business and economic analysis.
