Location: Seattle, WA - 3 days onsite
Duration: Direct Hire

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Manager, Data Engineering & Analytics Platform to lead a team responsible for designing, building, and operating a modern cloud-based enterprise data platform. This leader will drive the evolution of the organization's Azure-based data ecosystem, including the migration from Azure Synapse Analytics to Microsoft Fabric, while enabling enterprise analytics, business intelligence, and AI initiatives.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on technical leader with strong people management experience who can mentor engineers, establish engineering best practices, and shape the long-term strategy for data architecture, governance, and cloud data services.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Lead the design, development, and operation of an enterprise Azure Data Lakehouse, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers.
  • Guide the migration from Azure Synapse Analytics to Microsoft Fabric, ensuring scalability, performance, and minimal business disruption.
  • Oversee enterprise ETL/ELT development using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, and Microsoft Fabric Dataflows.
  • Establish scalable data models utilizing Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), Star Schema, and semantic modeling best practices.
  • Partner with analytics teams to deliver high-quality datasets and semantic models supporting Power BI reporting and enterprise analytics.
  • Ensure solutions are designed with scalability, security, reliability, and performance in mind to support advanced analytics and AI-driven initiatives.
  • Participate in Agile planning, sprint execution, backlog refinement, and cross-functional delivery activities.


Platform Strategy & Architecture
  • Serve as the technical lead for enterprise cloud data architecture and engineering.
  • Define standards and best practices for data engineering, pipeline development, testing, data quality, and platform governance.
  • Lead implementation and adoption of Microsoft Purview for enterprise data governance, cataloging, lineage, and compliance.
  • Support Master Data Management (MDM) initiatives to improve data consistency and integrity across enterprise systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend modern Azure data technologies, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, and Azure Databricks.
  • Develop platform roadmaps and collaborate with business and technology leaders to prioritize strategic initiatives.
  • Establish KPIs to measure platform health, pipeline reliability, data quality, and business impact.


People Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers responsible for enterprise data platform development and operations.
  • Provide technical coaching, career development, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous learning and adoption of modern cloud data technologies.
  • Promote best practices across Azure services, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, data governance, and modern engineering methodologies.
  • Communicate technical strategy effectively with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data engineering, enterprise data platforms, or software engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience managing software engineering or data engineering teams.
  • Strong experience designing and supporting enterprise cloud data platforms.
  • Deep expertise with Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience building enterprise-scale ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration solutions.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, Star Schema, Medallion Architecture, and semantic modeling.
  • Experience implementing data governance using Microsoft Purview or comparable solutions.
  • Familiarity with Master Data Management (MDM) concepts and enterprise data quality practices.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and supporting enterprise reporting environments.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Apache Spark, or similar distributed data processing technologies.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Exposure to AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, or modern data science platforms.

  • Occasional regional travel may be required.
  • Participation in an on-call support rotation may be required.
