What You Will Do:
Guidehouse is seeking a Data Engineer (Senior Consultant) to support a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data modernization initiative. This role will focus on building and maintaining modern, scalable data pipelines and lakehouse architectures that enable secure, compliant, and high-performance processing of federal health data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines within Databricks-based environments
- Implement and manage medallion (multi-layered lakehouse) data architectures (bronze, silver, gold)
- Build scalable data pipelines to process large, complex datasets, including structured and semi-structured data
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data scientists, analysts, SMEs, and CMS stakeholders) to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance through validation, monitoring, and documentation
- Optimize performance and efficiency of data processing workflows in cloud-based environments
- Support data integration and modernization efforts aligned with CMS EIPM objectives
- Participate in Agile development practices, including sprint planning and backlog management
What You Will Need:
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field
- A minimum of FOUR (4) years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related technical roles
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering and transformation workloads
- Hands-on experience with Databricks and large-scale data processing environments
- Experience developing and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Experience working with medallion/lakehouse architectures (bronze, silver, gold)
- Experience working with relational and/or distributed data systems, including data modeling
- Experience with CI/CD practices and tools (e.g., Git-based workflows)
- Familiarity with version control and collaboration tools, including Git, Jira, and Confluence
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Experience working with healthcare data, such as claims, eligibility, or clinical datasets
- Experience supporting CMS, HHS, or other federal health programs
- Experience working with state government data programs
- Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA)
- Experience supporting data modernization or cloud migration initiatives
The annual salary range for this position is $85,000.00-$141,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
