Job Description:

The Engineer will be co-located within a non operated joint venture company in San Jose, California, that specializes in data centre cooling technology in the centre of Silicon Valley. They will be responsible for the execution of research and development projects, testing and engineering projects in support of Castrol's data centre and thermal management business. This can encompass a wide variety different activities ranging from executing standard test method through to development of novel and innovative testing techniques on the latest developmental equipment. The scope of the AET team current spans, mobility, power and data centre industries with applications ranging from electric vehicle batteries through to data centre servers and networks. However in each the technical areas of focus in our projects are invariably, thermal management and cooling, system power flow control and measurement, electronics performance, instrumentation and high accuracy testing to produce meaningful conclusions. Co-located with the data centre join venture company, the Engineer will specialize in the field of data centre liquid cooling.

The Engineer will work with the Castrol Technology and business stakeholders in all aspects of the project definition, execution and reporting. It is expected that they may work alongside and in some cases under the supervision of Senior Engineers, Expert Engineers and the AET manager.

It is expected that the Engineer will actively progress their professional and personal competency
development to a level that will allow them to proficiently deliver all aspects of a testing or engineering project autonomously with little to no supervision. This may include pursuit of professional accreditation from an engineering industry body.

Key Accountabilities
• Implementing research and development testing projects in the department.
• Domain specialism in the field of data centre liquid cooling.
• Design of Experiment (DoE) using statistical techniques.
• Data analysis and technical reporting.
• Engineering support for the design, installation and operation of test equipment.
• Maintaining regular project status update reports according to AET policies and practices.
• Maintaining effective networks and relationships with key internal collaborators.
• Visible role model within the team in maintaining high operational and HSSEQ standards

Essential Education

Degree in a relevant engineering / science field.

Essential Experience
• Over 3 years working as a professional engineer in engineering roles.
• Domain expertise in data centres liquid cooling.
• Self-starer, and able to work with some supervision in the execution of research and development
testing projects, including data analysis and reporting.

Desirable Criteria
• Masters degree or PhD in a relevant engineering / science field.
• Chartered membership of a industry recognized engineering organization.
• Over 2 years experience in a professional engineering testing environment.
• Over 2 years experience working in an operational engineering / safety critical environment.
• Author of peer reviewed published technical papers.
• Expertise in data analytics or specialist measurement techniques.
• Profficient in Computer Aided Engineering tools.
• Knowledge and experience of immersion cooling of high voltage (>30V AC, 60V DC) electrical
systems.
• Knowledge and experience of data centre technologies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As this is a safety critical operational role, the Engineer will be expected to be on site whenever required to facilitate the efficient execution of testing and team activities. Occasional working from home will be possible as operations and activities within the team allow.

How much do we pay (Base)? ($135,000 - $145,000 (Minimum & Maximum)) *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for US Benefits Select. This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 - 240 hours of vacation per year for full time employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees).
