Minimum qualifications:
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in Controls/Automation in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment, the required use of OSHA standard safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related Engineering field
  • 10 years of experience working in data centers, manufacturing, power plants, or transmission operations.
  • Experience collaborating with other business units to meet company goals and standards.
  • Experience with facility monitoring, automation, or controls systems, including managing Building Management System (BMS) or Power Monitoring System (PMS) networks and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in a data center environment.
  • Effective people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.


About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components).

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $122000 - $174000 (USD) 15% bonus target equity benefits

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair data center systems, including servers, network equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), system administration, access control, alarm investigation, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Provide effective leadership for successful critical system troubleshooting, unit commissioning, and repairs/replacements with minimal supervision in quality, quantity, and timeliness as assigned.
  • Respond to critical data center events and alarms and be responsible for being a point of escalation on operational issues.
  • Monitor plant efficiency (e.g., Power Usage Effectiveness/Water Usage Effectiveness - PUE/WUE) at a datacenter. Act as an onsite technical lead in these efficiency areas and work with technicians, leads, and managers to drive site level programs.
  • Interact with design engineers, and bring an operational mindset to discussions around new infrastructure and technology.
