Data Center Operations Lead

Arlington, VA

• Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day data center operations and coordination.
• Maintain accurate rack elevations, floor layouts, equipment placement records, and data center diagrams.
• Coordinate and assign rack space and equipment placement based on available space, power, cooling, connectivity, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate equipment installations, rack-and-stack activities, relocations, upgrades, and removals with responsible technical teams.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment installed within each data center, including rack location, equipment placement, system or network association, equipment owner, and asset information.
• Ensure equipment is properly labeled, documented, installed, and physically secured in accordance with established standards.
• Establish and maintain cable management and labeling standards for network, fiber, power, and other infrastructure cabling.
• Conduct routine data center walkthroughs to identify cleanliness, cabling, labeling, equipment, safety, environmental, and documentation deficiencies.
• Maintain overall data center cleanliness and operational hygiene, including removal of abandoned equipment, unused cable, boxes, packaging materials, and unnecessary items.
• Coordinate cleanup and remediation activities with responsible technical teams and track identified deficiencies through completion.
• Monitor available rack space, power, cooling, and physical capacity and identify potential capacity limitations.
• Coordinate with technical teams prior to the installation, relocation, or removal of equipment.
• Maintain designated equipment staging areas and ensure equipment is not unnecessarily stored within operational data center spaces.
• Coordinate equipment receiving, delivery, staging, installation, relocation, removal, and disposition activities.
• Ensure rack elevations, inventory records, diagrams, and other applicable documentation are updated following physical changes within the data center.
• Review planned work for potential data center infrastructure impacts and ensure physical prerequisites are addressed prior to implementation.
• Coordinate authorized vendor, maintenance, and third-party activities occurring within data center spaces.
• Support physical inventory and asset management validation efforts and assist with identifying and resolving discrepancies.
• Develop and maintain data center standard operating procedures, standards, checklists, and operating documentation.
• Support incident and outage response when physical inspection, equipment identification, cabling validation, power verification, or onsite coordination is required.
• Maintain awareness of upcoming deployments, technology refreshes, equipment decommissions, and projects that may affect data center capacity or operations.
• Identify data center risks, deficiencies, and improvement opportunities and escalate significant issues to Operations leadership.
• Provide routine status reporting regarding data center capacity, equipment movements, upcoming installations, identified deficiencies, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with technical teams while ensuring those teams retain responsibility for the configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and operation of their assigned systems.
• Perform other data center operational duties as required to maintain an organized, documented, secure, and operationally ready environment
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field. Additional relevant data center experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 5+ years of experience supporting or coordinating day-to-day data center operations.
• Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of data center operations, infrastructure standards, rack configurations, equipment placement, power, cooling, cabling, and space utilization.
• Knowledge of data center best practices related to cleanliness, physical organization, equipment labeling, cable management, equipment staging, and operational hygiene.
• Skill in developing, maintaining, and reviewing rack elevations, floor layouts, equipment inventories, diagrams, and other data center documentation.
• Skill in coordinating equipment installations, relocations, removals, rack-and-stack activities, and other physical data center changes across multiple technical teams.
• Ability to effectively manage data center space and equipment placement while considering current requirements, available capacity, and future growth.
• Ability to conduct routine data center inspections, identify deficiencies, establish corrective actions, and coordinate resolution with responsible teams.
• Ability to establish and enforce consistent data center operational standards and procedures.
• Ability to identify potential data center capacity, organization, safety, or operational risks and appropriately escalate issues requiring leadership attention.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, prioritize activities, and maintain accountability for the overall organization and operational readiness of assigned data center spaces.
