Job DescriptionData Center Customer Deployment Engineer, Power and White SpacePosition OverviewThe Data Center Customer Deployment Engineer supports customer installations and tenant fit outs across an assigned portfolio of colocation data centers.
Project scope can vary significantly. The engineer may support a single cabinet installation for one customer or coordinate complex deployments across multiple data centers at the same time.
This is a power focused white space engineering role. The primary responsibilities include power planning, grooming, stripping, weeding, balancing, assigning, and redistributing power within active data center environments.
The engineer will also support cages, cabinets, racks, containment, equipment moves, and light fiber work. Candidates should have a working understanding of mechanical infrastructure, cooling, and airflow, but their strongest technical experience must be in electrical power and power distribution.
Key Responsibilities- Manage customer deployments ranging from single cabinet installations to large multisite data center rollouts.
- Translate customer requirements into executable white space deployment plans.
- Support customer tenant fit outs involving cages, cabinets, racks, containment, power, and connectivity.
- Groom, stripe, weed, and balance power based on customer equipment requirements and available facility capacity.
- Plan and coordinate A side and B side power distribution and redundancy.
- Review rack level power requirements, circuit capacity, breaker assignments, and electrical loads.
- Coordinate PDUs, RPPs, busway, branch circuits, breakers, and cabinet power connections.
- Identify available power and determine how it should be assigned, redistributed, or balanced.
- Support customer equipment moves, additions, and changes within active data center environments.
- Develop or review rack elevations, floor layouts, cage designs, and cabinet placements.
- Coordinate hot aisle and cold aisle containment installations and modifications.
- Support light fiber, cabling, pathway, and cross connect requirements.
- Coordinate with customers, facility operations, construction teams, vendors, and internal engineering groups.
- Manage multiple deployments across different data center locations while maintaining schedules, documentation, and customer expectations.
- Verify that installations meet facility standards, redundancy requirements, and customer specifications.
- Support testing, project turnover, and final customer acceptance.
Required Experience and Skills- Direct experience with data center, colocation, mission critical, or white space infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution within data halls.
- Experience grooming, stripping, weeding, and balancing power.
- Understanding of rack power, circuits, breakers, redundancy, electrical capacity, and load management.
- Experience supporting customer tenant fit outs or deployment projects.
- Ability to manage projects ranging from individual cabinet installations to multisite deployments.
- Familiarity with PDUs, RPPs, busway, branch circuits, and A side and B side power configurations.
- Ability to read electrical one lines, floor plans, rack elevations, and construction drawings.
- Strong coordination, documentation, and customer communication skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively within active and highly sensitive data center environments.
- Ability to travel approximately one week per month or as required by the assigned region.
Preferred Experience- Basic mechanical knowledge involving cooling, airflow, containment, and equipment heat loads.
- Experience with hot aisle and cold aisle containment.
- Familiarity with structured cabling, fiber pathways, and cross connects.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
- Experience coordinating multiple data center locations or customer deployments simultaneously.
- Knowledge of commissioning, quality assurance, and deployment turnover processes.
- EIT, PE, DCDC, ATD, RCDD, CDCP, or related credentials are helpful but not required.
