Job Summary
The Cyber Security Engineer (Junior) supports the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Office of Information Technology (OIT), in maintaining and improving the organization's cybersecurity posture. This role works within the Information Assurance Team and collaborates closely with the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to perform security operations, compliance monitoring, risk management, and incident response support aligned with federal cybersecurity requirements such as FISMA and HHS standards.
This position plays a key role in protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of federal systems by supporting security tools, investigating potential incidents, and ensuring compliance with NIH and HHS policies.
What you will do:
  • Operational Security and Monitoring
  • Monitor and analyze security tools such as Splunk, Cylance, Tenable, BigFix, Secret Server, and Microsoft Defender to identify vulnerabilities and threats
  • Track and support remediation of vulnerabilities across systems
  • Assist with maintaining visibility and compliance across organizational assets
  • Incident Response and Risk Management
  • Review and triage alerts including DLP, antivirus, and vulnerability findings
  • Support incident investigations by gathering relevant system and user data
  • Coordinate with the NIH Incident Response Team to track incidents through closure
  • Compliance and Reporting
  • Support FISMA-related activities including data collection and reporting
  • Maintain compliance dashboards and tracking tools
  • Assist in producing weekly and monthly reports for federal leadership
  • Customer Support and Service Queue Management
  • Process and triage ServiceNow requests within the ISSO service queue
  • Coordinate with customers and technical teams to resolve requests
  • Support privileged account requests and PIV exemptions by validating approvals and training requirements
  • Security Operations and Administration
  • Review software requests using vulnerability data sources such as the National Vulnerability Database
  • Monitor international travel alerts and assess potential risks to devices
  • Manage tools such as NetSparker and Absolute and support asset lifecycle processes
  • Program Support and Collaboration
  • Participate in sprint planning and task tracking using Azure DevOps Boards
  • Respond to ISSO inquiries in a timely manner during business hours
  • Support ATO and FISMA recertification efforts as needed
  • Assist with cybersecurity awareness and communication activities

What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, or technical support roles
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as the CIA triad

  • Experience with enterprise tools or ticketing systems is a plus

At JCS Solutions, compensation is based on a number of factors such as location, qualifications, and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00
