Position Summary
Ryan Specialty is seeking a Cyber Underwriter to join our growing Cyber team.

This role is ideal for an underwriting professional who enjoys evaluating a high volume of opportunities, making thoughtful risk decisions, and partnering closely with brokers to deliver excellent service. The successful candidate will contribute to the profitable growth of the Cyber portfolio by combining strong underwriting discipline with a responsive, solutions-oriented approach.

The ideal candidate has experience underwriting cyber risks within a carrier, MGA, wholesaler, or specialty underwriting organization and thrives in a fast-paced environment where speed, service, and sound underwriting judgment are critical.

What will your job entail?

Underwriting & Risk Assessment
  • Review, evaluate, and price cyber risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority levels.
  • Analyze submissions, loss history, financial information, industry exposures, and cybersecurity controls.
  • Assess account risk characteristics and determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing.
  • Make timely underwriting decisions while maintaining portfolio profitability objectives.
  • Manage new business and renewal opportunities across a broad range of industries and account sizes.
  • Monitor emerging cyber threats, market developments, and industry trends.
Broker & Distribution Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers and distribution partners.
  • Serve as a responsive underwriting resource throughout the submission, quote, negotiation, and binding process.
  • Provide creative solutions and timely service that support broker relationships and business growth.
  • Collaborate with brokers to identify opportunities and structure effective coverage solutions.
Portfolio Management
  • Contribute to profitable growth through disciplined underwriting and risk selection.
  • Support achievement of production, retention, and profitability goals.
  • Identify trends within assigned accounts and communicate opportunities or concerns to leadership.
  • Participate in portfolio reviews and business planning discussions.
Collaboration & Operational Excellence
  • Partner with underwriting, claims, compliance, legal, and operational teams to deliver exceptional service.
  • Leverage underwriting technology, data, and analytics to support decision-making.
  • Maintain underwriting documentation and ensure compliance with internal guidelines.
  • Support process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Qualifications
Experience
  • 2-5+ years of Cyber Liability, Technology E&O, Professional Liability, or Financial Lines underwriting experience.
  • Experience within a carrier, MGA, wholesale, or specialty underwriting environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple submissions and competing priorities effectively.
  • Understanding of cyber coverages, data privacy, ransomware, network security, and technology-related risk exposures.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced underwriting environment with strong service expectations preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered.
Licenses & Designations
  • P&C and/or Surplus Lines licenses preferred.
  • CPCU, RPLU, AU, or other insurance designations are a plus.

The target salary range for this position is $140,000.00 - $175,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
