Cyber Subject Matter Expert (SME) II

Location: Arlington, VA (On-Site)

Citizenship: US only

Clearance: Active TS/SCI (DHS EOD Suitability required)

ARGO Cyber is seeking an experienced Cyber Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve as a senior authority with deep expertise supporting cybersecurity operations aligned to the US Government client mission. This role provides advanced technical leadership in analyzing and solving highly complex cybersecurity challenges, applying extensive subject matter knowledge to design, develop, and implement effective, mission-driven solutions across diverse environments.

Operating independently, the SME delivers technical solutions to complex problems while applying broad knowledge of cybersecurity principles, technologies, and related disciplines. The role requires expertise in areas such as security engineering, systems architecture, network and host analysis, and incident management, along with the ability to integrate cross-functional insights to strengthen security posture and enhance operational capabilities within client-focused programs.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Works independently without supervision
  • Contributes to the completion of specific capability deployments
  • Serves as subject matter expert (SME), possessing in-depth knowledge on subjects relating to the conduct, activities, or operation of the client
  • Provides extensive technical knowledge and analysis of exceptionally complex problems for effective development and implementation of solutions
  • Possesses understanding and has wide experience in the application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the required technical field, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Provides technical expertise in a particular area of IT (e.g., Information Systems Architecture, Host Systems Analysis, Architecture, Implementation, Information Systems Integration, Software Development Methodologies, Security Engineering, Network Systems management, etc.) or a specific client functional area (e.g., incident management, network analysis, host analysis, etc.)


Qualifications, Education and Skills Requirements
  • Active high-level security clearance required as part of client contract requirement
  • US Citizenship required as part of client contract requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in IT, Cyber, or related field
  • Ability to provide expert-level support, analysis, and research with only broad direction into exceptionally complex problems and processes relating to the subject matter as it relates to client activities
  • Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions and develops solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organizational objectives
  • Extensive experience serving as a technical expert on executive-level teams providing technical direction, interpretation, and alternatives
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of an assignment or task at hand
  • Proven ability to guide the successful completion of major onsite deployments, complex engineering, cyber response activities, and assists leadership when performing surge support


Additional Desires and Considerations
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various clients in order to explain and elaborate on technical details
  • Practical experience with different scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Practical experience with the Databricks Intelligence Platform
  • Experience with system vulnerability assessments
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems security
  • Knowledge of computer programming and scripting languages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience
  • CompTIA Security+ or higher certification level preferred
