ResponsibilitiesThe Curriculum and Assessment Specialist provides specialized expertise in curriculum development, curriculum mapping, learner assessment, program evaluation, and educational quality improvement to support excellence in Postgraduate Medical Education. Working collaboratively with the Director, Curriculum and Assessment, Associate Dean, PGME, Program Directors, Fellowship Directors, faculty members, and educational leaders, the role develops, implements, evaluates, and enhances curriculum and assessment processes that support learner achievement, competency development, continuous program improvement, and compliance with accreditation standards. The role serves as a key resource on competency-based medical education (CBME), learner assessment, curriculum alignment, and educational evaluation methodologies across residency, Area of Focused Competence (AFC), and fellowship programs. Through consultation, project leadership, educational innovation, faculty support, and data-informed decision-making, the role advances curriculum delivery, learner assessment practices, and program evaluation, that contribute to excellence in postgraduate medical training.
QualificationsEducation:
- Undergraduate degree in Education, Medical Sciences, Health Sciences, Health Professions Education, Educational Psychology, or a related discipline
- Formal training or professional development in curriculum development, learner assessment, educational evaluation, instructional design, adult learning, competency-based medical education, or educational research methodologies
- Master's degree in Education, Health Professions Education, Medical Education, Curriculum Studies, Adult Education, Educational Leadership, Assessment and Evaluation, Program Evaluation, or a related field preferred
- Certification or specialized training in curriculum design, assessment methodologies, educational measurement, program evaluation, project management, quality improvement, or faculty development preferred
Experience:
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience supporting curriculum development, curriculum mapping, learner assessment, educational evaluation, or academic program enhancement within a post-secondary, healthcare, clinical education, or professional education environment
- Experience evaluating learner performance within competency-based, clinical, experiential, or professional education settings
- Experience developing and maintaining curriculum maps and aligning learning objectives, instructional activities, and learner assessment strategies
- Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating learner assessment processes, assessment systems, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Experience collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting educational data to support evidence-based decision-making and program improvement
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty members, clinicians, academic leaders, committees, and interdisciplinary stakeholders
- Experience within postgraduate medical education, undergraduate medical education, or other health professions education environments preferred
- Experience with Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), CanMEDS competencies, workplace-based assessment, and clinical assessment methodologies preferred
- Experience utilizing curriculum management systems, learning management systems, assessment platforms, educational technologies, and reporting tools preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of curriculum development, curriculum mapping, instructional design, and educational evaluation methodologies
- Advanced knowledge of learner assessment theory, competency-based medical education principles, workplace-based assessment, and clinical assessment best practices
- Knowledge of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), CanMEDS competencies, accreditation standards, and quality assurance frameworks applicable to postgraduate medical education
- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement methodologies, program evaluation frameworks, and evidence-informed educational practices
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques used to evaluate educational programs and learner outcomes
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop evidence-based recommendations
- Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate educational and assessment data to diverse stakeholder groups
- Exceptional consultation, facilitation, influence, and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with faculty members, clinicians, administrators, learners, and external partners
- Strong project leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, competing deadlines, and complex initiatives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefing materials, presentations, recommendations, and educational resources
- Ability to build consensus, facilitate change, and influence decision-making without formal authority
- Demonstrated commitment to innovation, continuous learning, educational excellence, and continuous quality improvement
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using curriculum management systems, learning management systems, assessment platforms, educational technologies, and reporting tools
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive learner and program information with discretion
- Ability to interpret accreditation requirements, educational standards, and assessment data and translate findings into practical recommendations for program enhancement
