BluePearl Pet Hospital in Paramus, NJ is seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to help support our Critical Care team.

Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill and hospitalized patients, all while while strengthening your technical skills and making a meaningful impact. **Experience in emergency and specialty hospital required.**

Schedule: 4x10s

Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour

Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:
  • Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
  • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
  • Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$6.00/hr. Shift Differential


Responsibilities of a Critical Care Technician:
  • Triage emergency and critically ill patients upon arrival, obtaining and documenting vital signs including temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Provide exceptional nursing care for critically ill and hospitalized patients by continuously monitoring vital parameters (including ECG, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and capnography), recognizing changes in patient status, and promptly communicating concerns to the veterinarian.
  • Manage patients requiring oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, and other advanced critical care support.
  • Monitor and care for patients receiving blood products and transfusions.
  • Recognize patient deterioration, identify those at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, and initiate CPR in accordance with RECOVER guidelines.
  • Calculate complex medical dosages, including constant rate infusions (CRIs), and accurately administer medications via appropriate routes.
  • Perform advanced venipuncture, phlebotomy, and intravenous catheter placement in peripheral vessels.
  • Place, maintain, and troubleshoot feeding tubes, central venous catheters, urinary catheters, and other critical care support devices.
  • Assist with advanced emergency and critical care procedures, including thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis, and arterial blood gas collection (as applicable).
  • Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia while utilizing advanced anesthetic monitoring equipment.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper positioning and radiation safety techniques.
  • Maintain accurate medical records by documenting patient assessments, treatments, medications, and nursing care.
  • Collaborate closely with specialists and the emergency team to deliver exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mentor and support fellow technicians while fostering a collaborative and team-oriented culture.
  • Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and clear communication when supporting clients through stressful and emotional situations.
