In this role, you'll partner closely with Business Development Officers, Senior Credit Officers, Loan Closing, and clients throughout the lending lifecycle. You'll evaluate complex credit requests, structure financing solutions, and help deliver timely lending decisions that balance customer needs with sound risk management.

What You'll Do

  • Underwrite SBA 7(a), 504, USDA, and conventional commercial loan requests, ensuring compliance with Bank Credit Policy, SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and applicable program requirements
  • Partner with Business Development Officers and clients to gather documentation, evaluate lending opportunities, and structure loan requests for efficient underwriting and approval
  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and third-party reports to assess creditworthiness, SBA eligibility, and overall lending risk
  • Collaborate with Senior Credit Officers to prepare credit approvals, post-approval memorandums, and re-approval requests while supporting complex underwriting decisions
  • Partner with Loan Closing teams to ensure loans are funded efficiently and all credit approval conditions, third-party reports, and closing requirements are satisfied
  • Build strong working relationships across Lending, Credit, Loan Closing, and external partners to deliver a consistent, high-quality client experience
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting workflows and leverage AI where appropriate to accelerate analysis, streamline processes, and improve decision quality while maintaining sound judgment and regulatory compliance

About You

  • 3-5 years of experience underwriting SBA and USDA loans; bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Working knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and SBA lending programs
  • Experience analyzing business financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and credit structures to support sound lending decisions
  • Experience reviewing third-party reports, including appraisals, environmental reports, and business valuations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across internal teams, clients, and external partners
  • Strong analytical thinking and sound judgment when balancing client needs, credit quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, cash flow analysis software, and other credit underwriting tools
  • You proactively identify opportunities to improve how work gets done and take ownership of delivering accurate, timely credit decisions
  • You actively look for ways AI can improve your work-from accelerating analysis to simplifying workflows and exploring problems from a different perspective. You're thoughtful about accuracy, confidentiality, and where human judgment remains essential
