Job Description

The purpose of this position is to oversee and direct the performance of all field construction activities for assigned craft in conformance with plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. This position requires a working knowledge and background of assigned work, the ability to appreciate and resolve complex situations with assistance, and see actions as a series of steps. The entry level Craft Superintendent I is the initial position to develop proficiency to direct line supervision within their craft as necessary in their roles to meet or exceed all project objectives.
• Plan and direct the work activities within assigned construction crafts in alignment with available engineering deliverables, tools, construction equipment, and materials; coordinate with other crafts as necessary
• Approve or authorize the coordination of craft personnel, material, and equipment needed to meet schedules
• Directly support project and construction management with planning and utilization of proper means and methods for all construction activities
Position Summary

The Borrow Pit Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely operation of all borrow pit activities supporting structural and common fill production. This position directs excavation, processing, quality control, hauling logistics, equipment utilization, SWPPP compliance, and workforce management to ensure continuous generation and delivery of specified materials while meeting project production, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of foremen, equipment operators, survey personnel, quality technicians, mechanics, and support to maintain continuous material supply for current and future project operations.
• Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
• Execute field construction activities in conformance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, procedures, quality requirements, and safety standards
• Control project schedule and cost through the efficient use of all construction resources including workforce, materials, tools, and equipment
• Monitor productivity and cost and implement appropriate action to maintain maximum labor productivity and cost-effectiveness
• Play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed

Basic Job Requirements
• Craft certification, training, and experience appropriate for assignment scope; directly related experience equal to ten (10) years; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Other Job Requirements
• Typically direct line supervision within assigned craft such as General Foremen and Foremen; depending on job size and complexity
• Typically serve as lead person to coordinate all activities within their assigned craft and scope in an active construction work area
• Coordinate and implement indirect activities, internal and external, required to support a productive construction execution; including functional staff support, support craft activities, and any other resource necessary to assure a safe and quality execution
• Generally responsible to assure all work undertaken is within approved scope boundaries and is in full compliance with all pertinent requirements
• May represent the company as the in situ senior representative for assigned craft
Production Planning
  • Forecast daily, weekly, and monthly material production requirements.
  • Monitor excavation quantities against project estimates.
  • Coordinate haul routes and trucking resources to maximize productivity.
  • Balance production capacity with downstream construction demands.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate production interruptions.
  • Safety Leadership
    • Champion a proactive safety culture with zero-incident expectations.
    • Ensure compliance with Fluor safety requirements.
    • Lead daily safety meetings, field observations, and incident investigations.
    • Manage daily equipment and operational safety inspections.
    • Ensure all personnel receive required safety training.
    • Equipment Management
      • Coordinate maintenance schedules to maximize equipment availability.
      • Optimize utilization of heavy equipment, including:
        • Excavators
        • Dozers
        • Motor Graders
        • Haul Trucks
        • Water Trucks
        • Screens
        • Loaders
      • Monitor equipment productivity
      Leadership
      • Lead superintendents, foremen, operators, mechanics, survey personnel, and support staff.
      • Mentor supervisors and develop future leaders.

• Basic computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets and electronic presentation programs
• Functional proficiency in project controls, human relations, industrial relations, and contract management as it applicable to assigned area of responsibility
• Demonstrated strong decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills

Market Rate Statement: The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.

Salary Range: $83,000.00 - $154,000.00
