Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for its CPS Investigations & Assessments Specialist position. The successful candidate will join the Child Protective Services program within the Department of Family Services, which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. Job Summary

This work is dynamic by nature, driven by the urgent need for crisis response, and deeply rewarding as we strive to ensure the safety of children and youth. It is carried out in partnership with a supportive, collaborative team and a forward-thinking organization.

The Investigations & Assessments Specialist provides emergency crisis intervention and responds to serious allegations of abuse or neglect, including cases involving abuse, human trafficking, and out-of-family investigations. The role involves conducting comprehensive assessments of children and their families by interviewing children, parents or guardians, and relevant collateral contacts. Using strengths-based and trauma-informed practices, the Specialist evaluates risk and safety, develops safety and service plans to support child wellbeing, and ensures all work complies with federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and timelines.

This position is eligible for a $3,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field OR a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in a human services area.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Sociology, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field.
• Knowledge of social services systems for children, families, and adults that reflects trauma-informed and strengths-based philosophy and values.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations as applied to assigned areas.
• Bilingual skills in Spanish & English.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for the assigned position. Obtain specific training, such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training, as required or desired for the assigned area.

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department.
