JOB DESCRIPTION:
Implement the District Comprehensive Guidance Plan responding to the unique needs of the individual student.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops a campus-Level Comprehensive Guidance Plan based on identified school needs-includes activities identified in the District's Developmental Guidance Plan.
- Confers with students, parents, and teachers when needed.
- Keeps accurate information concerning programs available at the campus and throughout the District (e.g., Credit by Examination, Alternative School, Career and Technology Programs etc. to students.
- Coordinates school transition activities (Gr. 8 - Post-High School).
- Coordinates orientation sessions for parents.
- Provides college day/night, career day/night, and financial aid workshops.
- Adheres to time lines and procedures.
- Meets deadlines as established by the District for scheduling and grade reporting.
- Maintains calendar schedule of school and guidance and counseling activities.
- Attends required District in-service and staff meetings.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.
- Cooperates with and supports faculty and staff.
- Demonstrates self-control and exhibits overall positive approach.
- Promotes positive self-image in students.
- Treats students consistently empathetically.
- Maintains and improves professional competence through reading, course work, and professional activities.
- Mentors new campus counselor.
- Keeps master lists of graduation and "walk" lists, testing results, National Merit and other special lists.
- Assists counselors in transcription of transcripts to insure consistency.
- Works with junior high counselors in vertical teaming.
- Meets regularly with campus counselors.
- Meets regularly with district Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling and other district lead counselor to stay current on campus, district and state issues.
- Assists in planning and coordinating the registration process for current and new students.
- Assists in the coordination of graduation.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of the District College Night.
- Sees students and parents when other counselors are unavailable.
- Attends professional development opportunities.
- Makes professional development opportunities available to campus counselors.
- Assists with master schedule issues.
- Maintains the counseling department budget.
- Researches counselor, administrator, parent and student questions.
- Works with "school shoppers".
- Is available for district crisis needs.
- Helps to maintain a positive work climate.
- Makes a yearly evaluation of the Guidance and Counseling program so that positive adjustments can be made.
- Is a facilitator for counselors by paving and modeling the way for positive outcomes.
- Steps in whenever necessary to assist students, parents, counselors, faculty or administrators.
- Maintains and shares information regarding district/state/campus policies, procedures and practices.
- Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:
- Successful counseling experience
- Leadership activities
- Experience working with students in an educational setting or with school-aged children
- Experience supporting students/school-aged children in crisis situations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: - Master's Degree
- Professional School counselor's certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal career development, and the college and financial aid application processes
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of and experience with various testing instruments
- Knowledgeable about secondary academic curriculum

Pay Grade AE-3 - Minimum pro-rated salary - $83,627
