Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage complex Product Liability litigation and claims, providing detailed analysis and client reports
  • Identify policy coverage and provide independent instruction to legal and investigative personnel
  • Evaluate damages and liability to establish reserves, develop defense strategies, and negotiate settlements
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and trials, which may require some travel
  • Draft legal documents and conduct reviews for various legal matters
  • Lead seminars for clients on important claims-related issues
  • Update internal manuals and maintain detailed documentation in case files

Full Job Description
($125,000 to $185,000 plus bonus)

Job Summary:

Supervise and handle more complex product liability (PL) litigation and claims under minimal supervision. Provide complex liability assessment and recommendations to clients in order to assure a high quality of claim handling and litigation supervision

Essential Job Functions:
  • Supervise and handle more complex Product Liability litigation and claims by conducting investigation and defense strategy and providing client reports with analysis and advice on further handling.
  • Identify proper policy and determine coverage. Provide more sophisticated and independent instruction to outside defense counsel, claim agents, investigators, experts.
  • Evaluate liability and damages to determine proper reserves, develop defense strategy and negotiate settlements.
  • Attend mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, small claim hearings, depositions, inspections, legal engineering conferences, trials. Some travel required.
  • Provide recommendations, suggestions, and opinions regarding legal matters.
  • Analyze and draft various legal documents, releases and contracts.
  • Handle Non-Marine claims other than PL. Conduct or participate in client/claim review meetings.
  • Conduct seminars for clients and staff on important claims technical and legal issues.
  • Update and revise internal manuals, forms and procedures.
  • Maintain proper documentation in file. Obtain and record accurate and complete data.
  • Assist Manager in training and developing technical staff.
  • Mentor staff as assigned.
  • Responsible for complying with proper internal controls as necessary to conduct job functions and/or carry out responsibilities and/or administrative activities at Company.
