Cost Estimator
Simpcw Resources Group is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to support bid preparation, project coordination and supply chain management. This role is based out of our Barriere or Clearwater BC office and will be integrated into our diverse business division structure and will require a flexible open-minded approach that considers the unique aspects of different industries. The successful candidate will work closely with our supporting departments to manage operational cost data and apply effective bidding strategies that leverage our competitive advantages. The role will also support project teams through execution, including project coordination and contract administration, to develop and refine a deeper understanding of our business and our clients. Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or technology diploma in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in civil or heavy industrial construction.
- Proficient with estimating software.
- Experience with WBS/CBS and project cost controls.
- Advanced knowledge of contract/commercial management.
- Experience with risk management.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
- Experience leading, supervising, or mentoring a team, with the ability to effectively delegate work, manage priorities and support development of junior staff is considered an asset.
In this role you will:
- Lead overall bid development and present recommendations for management decision.
- Coordinate team resources to develop bid strategy.
- Review tender documents including drawings, specifications and contract terms.
- Develop a basis of estimate with assumptions, exclusions, risk mitigations and other relevant details to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate with Construction Management resources to optimize execution efficiency including labour, equipment and material requirements.
- Support communications lead in development of written proposals and qualification statements.
- Solicit, analyze and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Support compliance/commercial management team in subcontractor and supplier contract development.
- Identify, quantify and develop effective mitigation strategies for project risk profile.
- Assist with project handoff to execution team following contract award.
- Maintain oversight of project performance during execution to inform future pursuits and assist with change order pricing.
- Promote continuous improvement through analysis of bid vs actual cost data.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships.
- Maintain estimating database including productivity rates, past project performance data, key identification metrics, and internal cost library.
