Introduction

Join Chevron Phillips Chem, LP as a Cost Analyst within our Financial Planning & Analysis division, located in Sweeny. This pivotal role supports our commitment to operational excellence and financial discipline by providing detailed cost analysis and forecasting for our commercial business units and manufacturing plants. As a Cost Analyst, you will be a key partner in optimizing business performance through rigorous financial planning, insightful analysis, and effective communication with stakeholders at all levels. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with engineers, operations, and maintenance teams, allowing you to gain a comprehensive understanding of business operations and financial impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze monthly cost results and prepare monthly forecasting of operating expenses for the commercial business units and the plants
  • Coordinate and prepare site budget for the plant, including development of plant operating expenses, consulting with cost center owners, summarizing information for the facility, preparing presentation materials, and responding to inquiries
  • Actively engage with engineers, operations, and maintenance personnel to understand finance related priorities, needs, and communicate insights into solutions
  • Collect, transform, and analyze required data to address ad-hoc requests, or to test ideas and identify opportunities
  • Develop and maintain dynamic reporting tools
    Collaborate with commercial business units, plant personnel including the plant leadership team, and personnel in various Finance Department roles at Headquarters to improve business processes, set up new processes or to accomplish job responsibilities
  • Assist cost center owners and project managers with monthly accruals and other cost estimates
  • Analyze and execute distributions and assessments of support costs to production units
  • Prepare third party billings including interpretation of products and services contracts
  • Review SOX documentation and perform/evaluate annual testing
    Assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations for senior management as needed
  • Perform quarterly audits of required processes
  • Assist with special projects as assigned, including governmental reports and manufacturing department reports such as those related to benchmarking, gap closure analysis, capacity utilization and lost profit opportunities


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics (a Business Degree with a concentration in Accounting is acceptable)
  • Minimum of 3 years of working experience in related field
  • Working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of the principles of accounting, including the interrelatedness of financial statements, cost accounting and capitalization rules
  • Experience recognizing and defining issues related to people and processes


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or Masters Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • Prior financial analyst or plant cost analyst experience
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SAP, Blackline, Track, and Planful
  • Familiarity with procure-to-pay processes and capitalization rules
  • Experience in financial / business modeling
