Basic FunctionHF Sinclair Midstream is seeking a Corrosion Specialist. This position plans, guides, collects and analyzes data for tasks related to the cathodic protection/corrosion control program for company owned and operated pipelines, tanks, and facilities.
Job Duties- Communicates regularly with the Manager Corrosion Prevention on the status of the Corrosion Prevention Program (CP)
- Leads or assists with Corrosion Specialist with Engineering projects including any of the three primary corrosion disciplines: cathodic protection (CP), internal corrosion (water treatment), and/or protective coatings and linings.
- Assists with contract related activities including design, field inspection, contract administration, scheduling, and forecasting.
- Leads projects as well as performs contract administration related activities.
- Serve as the Team Lead in the absence of the Manager Corrosion Prevention
- Leads and coordinates teams of AMPP/NACE trained junior CP or CIP staff in coatings inspections and/or CP field testing.
- Reviews detailed designs for corrosion prevention systems, cost estimates and bid documents.
- Serve as the Lead the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) review.
- Assists in the evaluation of bids and the selection of contractors.
- Serves as project manager for corrosion-related capital improvement projects (and) supporting the Region Specialist.
- Responsible for engineering service and support in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis of corrosion control
- Lead developing solutions to technical problems involving unconventional or advanced problem-solving techniques that may not have been previously encountered by the company.
- Collaborate with the Manager Corrosion Prevention / Engineering to prepare complex engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, evaluations, and studies utilizing specialized analytical skills.
- Involved in exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation.
- Responsible for occasionally acting independently and making authoritative decisions on technical matters, as directed by the Manager Corrosion Prevention
- Demonstrates sound knowledge of Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) best industry practices.
- Provide R&D recommendations to the Manager Corrosion Prevention and apply innovative technology, which has been approved by the CP Manager to ensure increased efficiency and lower cost of service.
- Conducts and assists in field tests/inspections, measurements, filing of reports, and record keeping
- Oversee installation of corrosion mitigation systems Assist in coordinating all maintenance of the cathodic protection/corrosion prevention system in assigned area
- Liaison with Pipeline Operations and assist when necessary
- Liaison with Integrity Management Engineers and assist when necessary
- Review drawings and project submittals for possible interference with company owned assets
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
ExperienceA minimum of 10 years on-the-job experience is required.
Preferred Experience:
On-the-job pipeline construction and/or pipeline operations experience and a background in electrical theory. Use of MCMiller GX field computer and MC Miller Proactive software.
Education LevelA minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of a level III NACE Cathodic Protection Technologist Certification and NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist Certification are required.
Preferred Education:
A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
Required SkillsAdvanced level reading and writing skills and the ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations is required. Ability to plan, organize, and carryout duties with minimal supervision. Proficient with MS10 operating system. Advanced understanding and use of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Visio. Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and other external contacts. Required to maintain operator qualifications related to corrosion prevention. Advanced understanding of DOT CFR 49 Part 195 & 192 requirements. Will be required to maintain company owned vehicle and operate on occasion in an off-road environment. Occasionally will need to operate company owned all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to perform job duties. Ability to lead and train other company personnel.
Supervisory/Managerial ResponsibilityMay lead the work of others from time to time.
Work ConditionsOffice based with up to 20% travel by land or air required. At times required to work in a refinery/industrial environment or outdoors; subject to varying weather conditions and temperatures. May be exposed to loud noises, vibrations, fumes, airborne particles, dust, dirt, mud, water, petroleum products, chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and/or extreme temperatures. On occasion may work near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment, may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. May have to work in close confined spaces or in high places up to 50 feet.
