The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as a
Corrections Captain, a key leadership role within the institution. This position is critical to maintaining effective prison operations within a secure correctional environment while ensuring strong employee relations, policy compliance, and workforce development.
As one of Louisiana's largest correctional institutions, Louisiana State Penitentiary relies on experienced leaders who can support staff and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to supporting the men and women who work to maintain safety and order within the facility.
Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
2. One year of experience in any field; OR
3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
- Inspect all areas of supervision ensuring they are properly cleaned, sanitary, operating efficiently and are in compliance with safety, health, and ACA regulations.
- Ensure officers are on their assigned drops and are working according to LSP policies and procedures.
- Supervise count procedures, meal activities, callouts, and other routine management functions.
- Supervise and assist officers in handling disturbances or incidents.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)
- The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $32.60 per hour.
This position also offers premium pay: A rate between $1.00 and $2.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
