Role OverviewThe Head of Integrated Solutions Engineering will lead the engineering strategy, delivery, and evolution of shared technology platforms supporting New York Life's Insurance, Annuities, and Wealth businesses. This leader will be accountable for critical enterprise capabilities including Illustrations, Tax, Operational Data Management, Policy Generation, and Integration Services, ensuring these platforms are resilient, scalable, secure, and positioned to support continued business growth and innovation.
This role leads a large, multidisciplinary engineering organization and establishes technical direction across multiple product and platform domains. The Head of Integrated Solutions Engineering will guide the modernization of legacy platforms toward cloud-native, API-first, and event-driven architectures while balancing business delivery with long-term platform health and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will bring deep technical credibility developed through progressive software engineering, architecture, and engineering leadership experience. While this role is not expected to write production code, the leader will remain closely engaged in architectural reviews, emerging technology evaluation, complex engineering decisions, and the development of senior technical talent. This individual will partner with business, product, architecture, and technology leaders to translate strategic priorities into sustainable engineering solutions and measurable business outcomes.
What You'll Do- Set the engineering and platform strategy for Integrated Solutions, defining multi-year technology roadmaps, engineering standards, reference architectures, and modernization priorities across shared capabilities supporting Insurance, Annuities, and Wealth.
- Lead and develop a high-performing engineering organization of employees and consultants, including engineering leaders, architects, engineers, and analysts; establish clear accountability, strengthen technical leadership, and foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, quality, and continuous learning.
- Modernize and evolve enterprise platforms through cloud-native architectures, microservices, APIs, event-driven integration, containerization, automation, AI-assisted engineering practices, and modern software delivery approaches while maintaining the stability of mission-critical capabilities.
- Drive architectural and engineering decisions across complex initiatives, partnering with Domain and Enterprise Architecture and other technology and business leaders to resolve dependencies, manage risk, improve connectivity across internal and third-party platforms, and ensure solutions support broader business objectives.
- Own engineering health and operational excellence across Integrated Solutions platforms by establishing measurable outcomes for reliability, resiliency, security, scalability, observability, deployment frequency, engineering productivity, incident management, and technical debt reduction.
What You'll BringRequired Skills- 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including experience designing and building enterprise-scale distributed systems, with demonstrated progression through software engineering, technical leadership, architecture, and engineering leadership roles.
- 10+ years of experience leading large engineering organizations responsible for building and operating mission-critical enterprise platforms, including demonstrated success developing engineering leaders, architects, and senior technical talent.
- Deep technical expertise in modern application and platform architecture, including cloud-native development, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, enterprise integration patterns, container platforms, and modern data integration strategies.
- Demonstrated experience modernizing complex legacy technology environments while maintaining operational stability and balancing near-term business priorities with long-term architecture, platform health, security, resiliency, scalability, and technical debt reduction.
- Experience establishing and advancing modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, observability, Site Reliability Engineering practices, and AI-assisted software development and automation.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems analysis, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience, with exceptional communication and influencing skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for engineers, architects, business leaders, and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Skills- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, along with Kubernetes, container platforms, API gateways, event-streaming technologies such as Kafka or Event Hubs, REST APIs, GraphQL, and modern data platforms.
- Experience applying Domain-Driven Design, event-driven architecture, enterprise integration patterns, and related architectural approaches within large-scale, complex technology environments.
- Experience applying AI/ML, Generative AI, intelligent automation, and emerging engineering technologies to improve software development productivity, engineering practices, or enterprise platform capabilities.
- Experience leading technology platforms or engineering organizations supporting insurance, annuities, wealth management, financial services, or similarly complex and highly integrated business domains.
Pay TransparencySalary Range: $185,000-$264,500

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
