Full Job Description
Canon USA in Melville, NY is currently seeking a Corporate Tax Advisor (Advisor, Corporate Tax). The Corporate Tax Advisor will design, implement, and oversee the regional indirect tax function-including Sales & Use, Property Tax, Business Licenses and Annual Reports. This role is a blend of hands-on compliance management, strategic business advisory, and systems optimization. The ideal candidate ensures 100% filing accuracy, mitigates audit risks, and partners with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, and IT) to align tax technology with evolving transaction-level regulations. This position is full time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and an option to work from home the remainder of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in office attendance on other days). Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs. Your Impact Compliance & Reporting: Oversee the end-to-end preparation, review, and timely filing of all indirect tax returns, payments, and balance sheet reconciliations. You will also be responsible for identifying and filing refund claims for use tax paid to software vendors that were not allocated by where the software is actually being used when applicable. Audit Defense & Risk Management: Lead tax authority audits, defend tax positions, and maintain robust internal controls (such as SOX) to mitigate transaction risk. Business Advisory: Serve as the subject matter expert advising procurement, sales, and supply chain teams on the tax implications of new products, contracts, and international expansions. Tax Technology Integration: Partner with IT to maintain and optimize automated tax determination engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, Thomson Reuters) integrated with the ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle). Legislative Monitoring: Track and implement changes in global tax legislation, including e-invoicing mandates and rate changes, ensuring business systems adapt proactively. About You: The Skills & Expertise You Bring - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required, plus 7 years of related experience - Bachelor's degree in Accounting required - A CPA or Master's degree in Taxation a plus - Experience in setting up, preparing, and filing multiple state and local Sales & Use Tax returns using Vertex is a must In accordance with applicable law, we are providing the anticipated salary range for this role, $96,880 - $145,090.
