Full Job Description
General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is seeking an accomplished and trusted local-government professional to serve as its next Corporate Officer. As the statutory officer responsible for corporate administration, you will provide authoritative and impartial advice to the Board, Committees, Commissions, CAO, senior leadership and staff.

You will lead the Legislative Services Division and provide executive oversight of Board and committee processes, corporate records, access to information and privacy, elections and other democratic processes. You will also play a central role in strengthening governance systems, supporting informed public decision-making and ensuring that the CVRD's legislative responsibilities are carried out accurately, transparently and with integrity.

This position reports to the General Manager, Corporate Services.

Qualifications

Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Progressive local-government experience minimum six (6) years in legislative services, governance or public administration, including leadership.
  • Legislative & procedural expertise strong knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter, FOIPPA and meeting procedures.
  • Governance & meeting administration experience overseeing preparation of agendas, minutes, bylaws and official records for Boards or Councils.
  • Records, privacy & information management experience with corporate records, FOIPPA compliance and information-management programs.
  • Leadership & communication experience supervising staff; proven leadership, discretion, sound judgment and political acumen; exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Education & certifications degree in public administration, political science, law, business administration or related field; equivalent combinations considered; relevant certifications an asset.

Hours of Work

The typical work week is 35 hours and will include evenings and weekends as operationally needed. Flextime is offered with this position. In addition, this position offers an opportunity for a hybrid in-office / Work-From-Home arrangement.

Salary

The CVRD offers a competitive salary starting at $132,099.54 - $154,556.46 per year commensurate with experience plus a comprehensive benefits package including extended health / dental / insurance, pension, paid vacation. Please click here for a benefit summary.
