Corporate Counsel

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Corporate Counsel who will play a key strategic role in supporting Burris Logistics, with a primary focus on Trinity Logistics. In this highly impactful position, you will provide expert legal guidance on a wide range of matters-including contracts, litigation, labor & employment, regulatory topics, and risk mitigation. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, shaping policies, influencing strategy, and ensuring compliance across a dynamic logistics environment. Location: This is a hybrid role to our Seaford, Delaware office 1-2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the drafting, negotiation, and review of a wide variety of contracts, including customer and vendor agreements, insurance policies, leases, and other critical legal documents.
  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to executive leadership and management, offering clear, timely guidance aligned with business, financial, operational, and legal objectives.
  • Provide support on complex contractual issues, strategic initiatives, litigation, labor & employment matters, and other emerging needs.
  • Stay current on federal, state, and industry regulations-particularly DOT, FMCSA, and other applicable requirements-while developing a deep understanding of the businesses you support.
  • Develop, refine, and implement policies and standard operating procedures to reduce risk and reinforce compliance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure legal strategies align with broader business goals.
  • Contribute to the Company's overall legal strategy, promoting a proactive, solutions-oriented legal culture.
  • Guide and manage the resolution of contractual disputes and other legal matters.
  • Lead and coordinate work with external legal counsel to support business growth and positive outcomes.
  • Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including the management and optimization of the Company's contract management system.
  • Develop strategies to reduce legal exposure for Trinity offices and Agents.
  • Maintain oversight of policy documentation to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with legal developments.
  • Participate in special projects and handle other assigned duties as needed.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school required.
  • Ability to register and maintain a license as in-house counsel in Delaware required; an active Delaware law license is preferred.
  • Five years of relevant experience in a corporate setting or law firm.
  • Experience in contracts, corporate law, litigation, labor & employment, and compliance strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years in the transportation and/or logistics industry highly desirable.

Work Environment
  • Enjoy a hybrid work arrangement. Onsite at Trinity every Wednesday in-office
  • Occasional travel, approximately once per quarter, to keep things exciting!
