Working actively with executive and senior leadership teams, our Legal department assists in achieving the company's goals by not only partnering with the business, but also managing corporate liability and compliance. Employees within the department work on various legal and business-related issues daily. Role Description

As Corporate Counsel, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor to Safety National's business and executive leadership, helping guide strategic business initiatives while managing complex legal matters across the organization. In this role, you will primarily provide legal counsel on a broad range of employment issues, while also supporting corporate litigation and corporate affairs.

You will partner closely with Human Resources and business leaders to provide practical, solutions-oriented legal guidance that helps achieve business objectives while effectively managing legal risk. You will advise on employee relations matters, workplace investigations, performance management, recruiting, compensation, benefits, accommodations, leaves of absence, and workforce management issues across a multi-state organization. You will also monitor evolving employment laws and workplace trends, helping ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

Additionally, you will review and draft employment-related policies, procedures, agreements, training materials, and other legal documents. You will direct or support responses to administrative charges, agency investigations, audits, subpoenas, demand letters, and pre-litigation disputes. A significant portion of the role involves managing corporate litigation matters from inception through resolution, including oversight of outside counsel, litigation budgets, and case strategy.

As business needs arise, you will also provide legal counsel to a variety of corporate departments, including Credit Risk, Compliance, Reinsurance, Claims, Finance, and Marketing & Communications. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence business outcomes, collaborate directly with executive leadership, and make a meaningful impact across the organization.

Qualifications

Education
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • Current license to practice law in at least one U.S. state is required.
  • Ability to obtain Missouri Limited Admission as In-House Counsel, if applicable, is required.

Required Qualifications
  • 5 or more years of employment counseling experience, including advising employers on employee relations, workplace investigations, performance management, leave and accommodation issues, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Significant experience managing corporate litigation.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate legal advice into practical business guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects while producing high-quality work independently.
  • Confidence partnering with executive leadership and external business partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • This position allows for a hybrid work schedule which includes a minimum of 3 days per week in our St. Louis Corporate Office, located at 1832 Schuetz Rd. Saint Louis, MO. All employees are required to submit work from home requests and follow our Work From Home policy, which will be provided to all candidates selected to interview.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Corporate legal department experience; and/or
  • Extensive law firm labor and employment experience.

In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target base salary range for this position is $116,500 to $150,500. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location.
