T his coordinator position is not focused on student practice but rather focused on specialty education and will work in collaboration with internal and external specialty education partners and other interested parties to support the goals and needs of the various specialty education programs supported out of CW Learning & Development. The coordinator has responsibility the CW Centre for Learning and supporting the technological needs of the specialty programs being maintained on the platform. Additionally this role is key in supporting program development, financial tracking, data collection, specialty education reporting and evaluation needs.

What you'll do
  • Provides the central point of contact for internal and external student practice education stakeholders. Facilitates discussions with site staff and faculty at academic institutions to negotiate and resolve challenges and/or conflicts with student placements and communicates policies. Establishes new student practice placement sites and makes recommendations for alternate experiences. Develops strong internal and external relationships/partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations, provincially, nationally and internationally.
  • Ensures that appropriate risk management strategies/legal contracts and Affiliation Agreements are in place for student practice experiences, between C&W and external academic and other private and public organizations to minimize liability. Negotiates with academic institutions to modify selective components of the contract, performs periodical audits to revise, renew, and verify compliance with C&W terms and agreements. Consults with legal counsel when necessary and refuses agreements with other organizations if necessary.
  • Develops a framework for student education on C&W external websites and provides the design, content, and management of these internet pages to outline policies for students. Collaborates with PHSA Academic Development, Senior Leaders and others in the development of policies and guidelines. Oversees the development of placement profiles for each placement area, to assist students in accessing necessary information to apply and select placement sites.
  • Acts as the site lead for the Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet) system to receive, coordinate, communicate, and secure student placements for C&W. Promotes and expands the system to additional disciplines, including training educators, supervising the usage of the HSPnet system by staff, and solving technical problems. Creates queries, analyzes and disseminates reports and statistics on student placement for the programs, executive and PHSA Academic Development. Provides system enhancement recommendations to HSPnet and serves as a test site for these technical changes.
  • Monitors, analyzes and makes recommendations for L&D department budgets, identifies and analyzes variances for L&D revenue and expense budgets, grant accounts, project budgets, restricted, endowment and scholarship funds. Recommends the specifics of annual capital and operating budgets, and recommends actions to respond to period variances. Collaborates with L&D leaders to develop new revenue strategies and initiatives for ensuring balanced budgets and maximizing L&D revenue. Provides supervision and direction to casual staff, the CPR Program and related external contractor(s). Assigns and supervises work of clerical staff assisting with research and grant programs.
  • Manages research grants and donations including BCCH Telethon Research Program by working with CFRI to recruit an appropriate review committee and chair, and through coordination of the application, review and decision process. Provides researchers with reasons for unsuccessful applications, and ensures funded projects maintain financial and results reporting requirements. Manages the Telethon website and teamsite. Prepares summary reports on projects for the Executive and the Foundation.
  • Conducts needs assessments with regard to classroom and other education facilities (labs, simulation spaces) and through evidence-based design principles, collaborates with Planning, Media Services, and external consultants/contractors, to research, plan (including development of renovation budgets) and design room improvements. Schedules and monitors the construction and equipping of these facilities.

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a degree in a related areas such as Business Administration, Facilities, or Health Care administration plus a minimum of (3) years recent, related experience, preferably in a health care environment with experience in student practice and student education placements supplemented with advanced credentials or experience in financial management of complex revenue and expense accounts.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within healthcare settings. This involves recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within Program Name Here contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, BC Human Rights Code, Anti-racism Data Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

Salary Range: $69,218 - $99,501 per year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.
