Job SummaryAs a Coordinator, Language Services with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:- Help facilitate mutual understanding between patients/clients, their families and health care providers for more efficient care and positive health outcomes
- Support equitable access and quality care for patients/clients who may encounter limited English proficiency, and is accountable for quality processes and functions related to translating VCH content into multiple languages provided by Translators.
- Provide day-to-day support for and the administrative coordination between VCH staff and medical staff and Translators and acts as a key liaison.
- Monitor and evaluate translations to ensure they are accurate and culturally appropriate.
QualificationsEducation & Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Health Services Administration, Business Administration or relevant health care discipline with five to seven (5-7) years' recent, related experience in program management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities- Provides guidance to a team of in-house Translators and outsourced services and oversees the activities of staff and resources supporting translation requests to ensure they are effectively utilized and ensures quality work and equitable distribution of assignments.
- Identifies trends and service improvement opportunities and implements improvements to utilization processes of staff interpreters on an on-going basis that optimize resources and support improved service delivery.
- Addresses concerns raised by stakeholders and conducts monitoring and evaluation of the translation framework for ongoing quality improvement.
- Organizes contractor Translator recruitment to ensure quality standards for translations are met.
- Coordinates the on-boarding of contract Translators and implements contract translator orientation sessions.
- Participates in the tracking and monitoring of related budgets within the context of operational demands and environmental and resource constraints, and uses best utilization methods to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated budgets.
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
