In this position...

You'll be joining a highly skilled team of Controls Standards Engineers in Body Construction Engineering. You will play a key role in ensuring our ability to maintain the highest standards of manufacturing quality, consistency and safety. We'll look to you to provide expert direction for robotic application automation standardization that meet optimal safety, maintenance and production considerations for tool install through launch.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...
  • Provide direction for controls equipment locations for safety, maintenance and production consideration for tool install and through launch
  • Provide leadership and guidance as the go-to person for robotic application interface related items
  • Champion and develop standardized solutions for the various robotic applications and automation utilized within BCE launch programs to add process robustness
  • Benchmarking of best robotic application practices and processes (internal and external)
  • Development of new technologies with robotics and automation processes / equipment.
  • Develop and foster working relationships with new and existing application vendors (joining / vision equipment suppliers, etc.) to develop new processes/equipment and to continuously improve and update the equipment we have already deployed
  • Provide expertise in Product Design, Process Design and Component manufacturing related to robotic applications and automation systems
  • Respond to BCE program team requests for consultation for methods to improve their robotic application processes and assure a high level of process capability
  • Involvement with program planning teams to assist in the development of program strategies, and budgets for robotic applications at the lowest total cost, or whether they are appropriate for application. Provide consultation/coaching to program engineers for their programs
  • Review, track, and help resolve robotic and controls issues during launch phase
  • Coordinate robotic and controls open-issue meetings between all the tooling/facility integrators and the plant during the design/build phase and support launch phase as needed.
  • Provide support for plants to resolve robotic and controls issues and concerns
  • Verify all Ford safety standards are adhered
  • Perform debug and tool buyoff of controls functions that support maintenance and production
  • Ensure cross commodity tooling consistency
  • Mentor tooling suppliers to provide safe, consistent, reliable and maintainable tooling
  • Verify common Ford programming practices are followed


Qualifications

You'll have...
  • BSc in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial preferred) and/or 10+ years' experience
    working with robotic automation and controls standards and best practices
  • Detailed working knowledge of robotic applications and automation, preferably: Kawasaki and Fanuc Robots
  • Experience with the development and launch of new robotic applications, controls, or processes.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to learn and apply new technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work as effective member in the team
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication, leadership, and computer skills
  • Must be willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to ensure completion of assignments
  • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally - up to 70% (largely local to S.E. MI)


Even better, you may have...
  • Previous hands-on Ford experience as an Integrator or Supplier (Ford systems, processes, etc)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the creative application of technology into the manufacturing environment utilizing robotic, vision, quality, and assembly processes within PLC controlled systems
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, vision and Rockwell software suite
  • Experience working with joining equipment suppliers and understanding of all current robotic interface application standards.
  • Controls hardware background with an understanding of electrical code and design principles
  • Strong evidence of a commitment to technical growth through formal and continuing education

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

This position is hybrid. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite four or more days per week.
