Controls Specialist

The Role

Step into a dynamic Controls Specialist role, where you'll be at the forefront of automation innovation. Here, you'll tackle complex client challenges, design and deliver cutting-edge solutions, and oversee high-impact projects from concept to completion. Your expertise will help shape superior client experiences, as you collaborate with a passionate internal team to bring vision, energy, and intensity to every engagement-exceeding expectations and driving the future of automation

Key Responsibilities

  • Controls Specialists will work on various stages of automation and control projects including electrical design, PLC programming, HMI design, SCADA systems, and troubleshooting/testing/debugging.
  • Exercise Project Management skills by developing project schedules and budgets in collaboration with clients and internal project management resources, ensuring completion of all project deliverables to the satisfaction of the client while fostering a culture of safety.
  • Participate in planning sessions that will identify industry business drivers and trends that will serve as the basis for developing key offerings to our clients, attend client field service and emergency calls and partake in customer meetings sharing your technical expertise.
  • Provide superior client experiences partnering with your internal team to cohesively deliver a vision, energy, and intensity that exceeds client expectations.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Engineering from a recognized engineering faculty or equivalent qualification
  • 3-5 years' experience in the Automation industry as an Engineer, Technologist and/or project manager, technically delivering on projects
  • Proven track record in the design, procurement, programming, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems including:
    • PLCs: Rockwell, Siemens
    • HMI's: Rockwell Plant PAX, Aveva InTouch/OMI (Wonderware, Siemens and Delta V would be an asset)
    • Instrumentation
    • VFD's and Servo's
    • Network design and implementation
  • Experience with network architecture design, system virtualization and AutoCAD/Electrical Design
  • A proven self-starter with a positive, "can-do" attitude who is motivated by solving complex challenges
  • Strong client-focused approach, dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external customers
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed relationship management expertise, able to interact with various levels within the clients' organization
  • Proven commitment to safety
  • Motivated and passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
  • Reliable transportation and an ability to travel; Controls Specialists at Convergix should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada


Desirable

  • Experience in Food & Beverage and/or Steel industry is an asset
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage, motivate and develop a team to achieve results


Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
