Full Job Description
The Data Center Capacity Delivery team is looking for exceptional individuals to join our organization as a Controls Manager, responsible for the building management systems and electrical power monitoring system (BMS/EPMS) deployment and service within Amazon data centers. If you are passionate about the Customer Experience, think and act globally and have the ability to contribute to major new innovations in the area of building controls and automation this is the challenge you are looking for!

The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of highly technically skilled individuals. The candidate will possess industrial Controls System experience, project management, mechanical, electrical or technology background that enables him/her to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms and a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business.

Key job responsibilities

Able to implement and track team goals, report the status of ongoing projects upwards.

Experienced interviewer, able to develop launch plans for new hires, and identify team needs.

Experienced in installation, programming, and troubleshooting of BMS/EPMS systems and/or industrial controls systems.

Strong writing skills, able to articulate thoughts clearly and concisely.

Understanding of: electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC.

Ability to ascertain customer needs to help develop project scope and specifications.

Ability to manage project engineering to determine the scope of work relative to the design intent of the customer needs.

Ability to read and interpret specifications and implementing those specifications as they apply the work environment.

Experience in development of drawings for control panels, power distribution, junction boxes. Included in the drawings are the general arrangement, internal layout, schematics and interconnection and wire diagrams.

Experience developing logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex logic devices such as Programmable Logical Controller and Distributed Control System.

Experience performing inspects, testing, and commission of the facility systems.

Provide technical assistance as needed to internal customers.

Coordinate project work internally within the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget.

A day in the life

As a Controls Manager, your primary customers are Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO), whose operational performance depends on the quality and reliability of the Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) your team delivers and maintains. The problems you solve are organizational: ensuring your region has the right people, processes, and priorities to keep controls systems performing at scale. On a given day you might present operational metrics to senior leadership, coach a builder on their development plan, escalate a vendor performance issue, or approve a capital project proposal. Your internal stakeholders include your senior manager, your direct reports (Engineers and Technicians), and partner teams (Construction, Commissioning, DCEO, Field Engineering).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with Industrial control systems, both hardware and software

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering science plus 10+ years of relevant controls experience, OR 14+ years of relevant controls experience in lieu of a degree.

- 5+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals.

- 5+ years of experience hiring, promoting, disciplining, and developing teams of controls professionals.

- 6+ years of experience in controls management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.

- 6+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI and submittal tracking) associated with controls and project execution.

- 5+ years of experience managing deployment of complex electrical and mechanical controls systems, including large scale power distribution or generation, and cooling systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Master's degree or above in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

- 8 years Directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching teams of controls professionals

- 10 Yrs. Exp. Project Management and Vendor Management

- 4 Yrs. Exp. In Data Center system-level architecture and electrical engineering principals

- 4 Yrs. Exp. In Data Center system-level architecture and mechanical engineering principals

- Experience designing data centers or critical MEP infrastructure

- Certified as a Professional Engineer (PE)

- Prior AWS/Amazon experience

- 5+ Yr. Military Service

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
