Full Job Description
Job Description

If you are an engineer who thrives at the intersection of software development, hands-on vehicle testing, and high-impact leadership, this is the role you've been looking for.

The Powertrain and Electrified Controls (PTEC) team is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated Controls Integration Engineer. In this role, you won't just be writing code behind a desk-you will be the bridge between software and physical vehicle performance. You will lead the integration of cutting-edge controls for both next-generation electrified vehicles (xEV) and traditional powertrain applications.

This is a highly visible role offering immense autonomy, rapid career development, and the unique satisfaction of seeing the direct, tangible output of your work on physical prototype vehicles, dynos, and breadboards.

Why You'll Love This Role:
  • Direct Impact: You are responsible for program delivery. You will watch your software and integration efforts drive physical vehicles.
  • Autonomy & Leadership: You will lead commissioning, troubleshooting, and milestone reviews, giving you the freedom to own your outcomes.
  • High Visibility: You will represent the Controls department at major program and launch meetings, presenting directly to stakeholders and leadership at varying technical levels.
  • Cross-Functional Exposure: You will collaborate daily with diverse teams, including brakes, body controls, and calibration, rapidly expanding your systems-engineering expertise.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

Lead Vehicle-Level Integration & Commissioning
  • Lead the physical commissioning process for prototype vehicles (both High Voltage and Low Voltage systems), breadboards, and dynos.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Vehicle and Breadboard Test Plans for each vehicle application.
  • Perform high-level Function Design Verification, analyze testing results, and develop DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) as needed.

Drive Software & Program Delivery
  • Serve as the Powertrain Software Applications Engineer, ensuring seamless integration of powertrain software across various platforms.
  • Drive powertrain controls commonality across diverse vehicle applications.
  • Lead requirement signoff to secure official program signoffs.
  • Track and report progress on program deliverables, updating status in the Global Integrator.
  • Lead preparation and assessments for critical Engineering milestone reviews (FDJ, PEC, FEC).

Hands-On Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
  • Lead deep-dive troubleshooting efforts for vehicle controls issues, bringing in supporting teams as needed to resolve complex issues.
  • Own the investigation, root cause analysis, and permanent corrective action (PCA) process for xEV and traditional controls-related concerns.

Collaborate, Present & Plan
  • Represent the PTEC team at program and launch meetings, capturing and communicating key timing and program changes.
  • Support timing and vehicle studies for both existing and next-generation vehicle programs.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations for PTEC Controls Integration to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

What You Bring (Minimum Requirements):
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Computer Science, or a related field).
  • Vehicle Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting and debugging physical vehicles.
  • Software Literacy: 2+ years of experience in roles requiring a strong understanding of embedded software code, C-books, or Matlab models.
  • Calibration Tools: 2+ years of experience with calibration and diagnostic toolsets (e.g., ATI Vision, CANalyzer, PTDIAG, EOL tools, or equivalent major automotive tools).
  • Quality & Validation: 2+ years of experience with Design Verification (DV) and the Failure Mode Analysis (FMA) processes.
  • Agile Methodology: 1+ years of experience working in a Scaled Agile framework utilizing Jira.

Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's Degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Familiarity with the Ford Product Development System (GPDS).
  • Coding proficiency in programming or scripting languages (such as Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with a proven track record of successfully interfacing cross-functionally across multiple engineering disciplines (such as brakes and body controls).
  • Exceptional communication skills and a self-motivated drive to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
