Advanced Automation Systems Engineer II

An Advanced Automation Systems Engineer is responsible for setting up the automation of manufacturing processes. The aim is to streamline the manufacturing process and make them as efficient as possible with the use of automation, while still maintaining safety, product quality, and adhering to internal protocols and external regulations. This position is responsible for developing and supporting automation initiatives at G&W's manufacturing facilities. This role is also responsible for training factory and support staff on implemented equipment and technology.

As an Advanced Automation Systems Engineer II you will:
  • Lead and assist G&W in identification, developing, and deploying automation projects.
  • Assess automation opportunities and help create innovative equipment designs to streamline manufacturing processes and solve complex problems.
  • Work with internal and external partners to develop machine design concepts and robotic technologies
  • Work on integration, programming, commissioning, and implementation of robotics and automation projects.
  • Support Industry 4.0 IoT device setup, support, and analytics
  • Develop equipment requirements and specifications for specialized molding, assembly, and visual inspection processes
  • Create systems diagrams, electrical install drawings, BOM lists, and material procurements
  • Collaborate with operations leadership in research and selection of current and new technologies, applications, and design alternatives that will have the highest potential impact on plant productivity
  • Develop systems and measures that appropriately assess the performance of automation initiatives, analyzing results, and providing appropriate recommendations to leadership to drive strategic business decisions.
  • Ensure effective and timely project completion by regularly monitoring progress, coordinating activities, and resolving roadblocks
  • Develop and maintain expertise on plant-wide processes and equipment
  • Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting equipment
  • Provide technical guidance, problem-solving, and advice to all employee levels in the operation and maintenance of new equipment.
  • Create, update, and audit work procedures, standard work, and process instructions.
  • Remain current on the latest developments in automation technologies and incorporate them into new initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

We are looking for someone who:
  • Holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical Engineering preferred or other engineering disciplines
  • Has 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in production automation.
  • Has experience in writing PLC codes for Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, GE, or other industry-standard PLC platforms.
  • Has experience in writing HMI code using Ignition, FactoryTalk View (RSView), or other industry-standard graphical interfaces.
  • Has experience with robotics and diligence with safety protocols and recognizing potential hazards
  • Possesses demonstrated problem-solving and team facilitating skills.

Ideally you will also have:
  • Exposure to Vision systems.
  • SQL and python programming.
  • Statistical process control experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities.

The Physical Demands / Working Conditions of the role are:
  • General Office Environment, PC use, Light Lifting (occasional 25 lbs or less)
  • Stooping
  • Standing

Other:
  • Assembly of tools and parts may be required
  • Occasional weekend and off shift support may be required
  • Occasional travel may be required

What we offer you:

Typical pay is $85,000 - 97,193 annually.

This position is eligible for participation in our Quarterly Incentive Pay Program
