Role Purpose

The Controls Engineer independently designs, implements, and supports industrial control systems for manufacturing and test equipment in the Canton AO environment. The role applies established engineering principles with moderate discretion to support production, development, and continuous improvement activities while ensuring safe and reliable operation of equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, modify, and support PLC-based control systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and controls documentation.
  • Develop and update PLC/HMI software, including recipes, interlocks, alarms, and data logging.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and software issues to minimize downtime and support production.
  • Support equipment installation, upgrades, legacy system replication, and system integration activities.
  • Implement controls solutions for motion, laser, vision, and other process equipment.
  • Design and maintain machine safety and interlock systems to meet company and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with machine builders, integrators, and suppliers to deliver equipment to specification.
  • Identify critical spare parts, preventive maintenance needs, and create supporting documentation and training.
  • Collaborate with engineering, technicians, and operations to communicate progress, risks, and escalation needs.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated controls aptitude or similar discipline
  • Minimum 2 years electrical or controls experience
  • Ability to debug and monitor PLC code - ladder logic
  • Sound understanding of AC/DC electrical theory, and practical application thereof
  • Working knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, and/or Power BI
  • Ability to generate and interpret electrical drawings
  • Knowledge of ANSI standards, NFPA and NEC applicable Electrical Codes.
  • Up to 25% travel required including regional and international
  • US Citizenship required

  • Manufacturing experience
  • DeltaV exposure
  • Experience and/or understanding of Six Sigma techniques
  • Strong diagnostic skills on electro-mechanical systems
  • Self-starter able to exceed expectations with a minimal amount of supervision
  • Experience with various electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with Allen Bradley controllers and associated hardware including: PLC and I/O devices, motion control, various communication protocols, field wiring and disconnect devices
  • Experience with various electro-mechanical devices (i.e. servo motors, valves and sensing devices)
  • Experience with industrial vision systems and scanning devices
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling software

The range for this position is $88,834.00 - $122,148.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
