About This Role
Join a seasoned team delivering smart, energy-efficient building automation solutions across some of the Great Lakes most established and diverse markets. As a Building Automation Software (BAS) Engineer for Automated Logic Corporation, you will contribute to a well-developed regional operation serving commercial, institutional, healthcare, and government facilities throughout the Great Lakes area.

This role offers the stability of joining a high-performing team with deep roots in the Great Lakes market, where the focus is on delivering consistent, high-quality engineering outcomes across a steady portfolio of projects. You will work alongside experienced engineers and collaborate closely with hardware, graphics, and operations teams to bring complex building automation systems to life.

In this role, you will report directly to the Ohio Engineering Manager and be responsible for Design and programing building automation system, site-specific configuration of control systems, and control algorithms.

This is a hybrid role, requiring 1-2 days in the office and 3-4 days remote per week.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering
  • Program entire BAS systems and develop equipment database infrastructure.
  • Develop BACnet instance numbering schemes and incorporate BAS networking concepts.
  • Utilize various BAS protocols including BACnet, Modbus, LON, and others.
  • Perform site-specific configuration of the WebCTRL system using SiteBuilder.
  • Program control algorithms including those that involve third-party integration using Eikon.
  • Develop graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems using Eikon and ViewBuilder.
  • Test programming and interfaces thoroughly prior to deployment.
  • Support functional testing (commissioning) for building systems.
  • Deliver final documentation of the building automation system incorporating all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
  • Maintain clear communication and proactive expectation setting with supervisor and project teams.

  • Adhere to project requirements and company and customer standards of design, programming, and implementation.
  • Document and communicate the building automation system design and revisions.
  • Develop graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems.
  • Test programming and interfaces prior to implantation.
  • Provide technical support to sales representatives to ensure customers' needs are met.
  • Identify and communicate project opportunities and risks.
  • Support of functional testing for building systems.


Customer and Departmental Standards
  • Adhere to project requirements, company standards, and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.


Department Process Improvement
  • Ensure engineering processes are followed and make suggestions for enhancement.


Company Directives
  • Ensure all Automated Logic organizational safety and ethics standards are met.
  • Uphold a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Exemplify the Carrier code of ethics in all professional conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of experience in HVAC or BAS controls.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building automation, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the building automation industry.
  • Proficiency in a Windows operating environment including email and Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Ability to balance multiple concurrent priorities.
  • Proficiency with primary functions of BAS software and associated engineering tools, with preference for experience in the Automated Logic suite.
  • Familiarity with third-party communication protocols used in building automation including BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, and N2. Ability to design integrations with the same.
  • Aptitude for problem solving, including the ability to troubleshoot remotely.
  • Time management skills including the ability to accurately estimate task duration and deliver on committed timelines.
  • Effective and professional communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and recommend modifications to sequences of operation for the automation of building systems.
  • Working knowledge of Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services.
  • Understanding of enterprise IP networks including layout.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision-making ability.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Competitive individual contributor who loves to win as a team.


Pay Range
The annual salary for this position is between $64,500.00 - $129,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate. The pay range will not be below the minimum wage applicable to the jurisdiction in which the applicant is to be employed.

Other Compensation
This position may be entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
