Job OverviewThe Commissioning Engineer role is an individual contributor position within the Bastian Controls department. This role responsible for tasks spread across multiple controls projects and will be capable of all phases of a controls project including concept and research, network design, panel design, ACAD layout, device troubleshooting, PLC/VLC programming, HMI tagging, on site installation, debug and onsite commissioning.
Job FunctionsEssential Functions
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our engineering standards
- Follow standard SOPs for each phase of a project
- Write technical documents including Functional Spec Documents (FSDs)
- Design Field Device Layouts
- Design Electrical Schematics using ACAD Electrical
- Develop PLC programs following our standards
- Startup and commission full systems from start to finish
- Identifies and resolves challenges to support both team efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Maintains open and transparent communication, including while on-site, with peers, stakeholders, and leadership to support project success
- Drives customer success by delivering projects that exceed expectations and align with market demands
- Completes training and obtain certification in relevant controls technologies and programs
- Participate actively and on time in scheduled meetings, including Controls staff meetings
- Provides cross-functional support to project teams, contributing beyond the scope of Controls when needed
- Develops innovative Controls techniques, products, or services, maintaining a competitive edge in the industry
- Completes administrative tasks promptly, including timesheets and expense reports
- Represents Bastian professionally, promoting the company in relevant forums
- Cultivates long-term customer relationships, driving repeat business and trust
- Adapts to evolving responsibilities, taking on additional duties as needed
Travel RequirementsOvernight travel between 30-50%
Required Qualifications and Preferred Skills- Bachelor's degree in engineering or 1+ years' experience in industry
- PLC/HMI experience
- Panel design experience
- Hands-on and mechanical aptitude
- Computer literate with MS Office products
- AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred
- Material Handling experience is a plus
- Strong team collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines effectively
- Highly motivated and results-driven
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
