Position Summary

Weinbrenner Shoe Company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead our accounting operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financial reporting.

This key leadership role oversees day-to-day accounting functions, ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, maintains strong internal controls, and drives audit readiness. The Controller partners closely with the Vice President of Finance and Director of Finance to support informed decision-making, continuous improvement, and the development of accounting talent - all while modeling our core values.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight & Compliance
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all audits, including financial, 401(k), workers' compensation, and regulatory/compliance audits.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements (sales & use, corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes).
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure audit readiness at all times.
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures comply with GAAP and company standards.
  • Support inventory and cost accounting, including physical inventory, standard costing, variance analysis, and valuation.
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee banking transactions, cash management, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Generate and analyze key financial and operational performance metrics.
  • Provide oversight and backup support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Lead capital expenditure processes, including approval tracking, accounting treatment, and facilitation of the monthly Capital Planning Team process.
Leadership & Development
  • Supervise Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams, ensuring strong performance and professional growth.
  • Drive continuous process improvement by reviewing workflows, controls, and systems.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous learning within the accounting team.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Support
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities by compiling data, preparing analysis, and supporting financial reporting needs.
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Oversee property and casualty insurance programs.
  • Manage financial aspects of employee benefits in partnership with Human Resources.
Qualifications
