Overview

 

The Controller is a senior financial leader responsible for safeguarding the financial integrity of Aspire Indiana Health through effective accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and financial governance.

The Controller oversees the organization’s accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, financial close, financial reporting, audit preparation, reconciliations, fixed assets, and other assigned financial operations. The position establishes and maintains effective financial controls and ensures accounting practices are consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

The Controller also provides financial oversight and independent review of payroll prior to final processing. Payroll administration remains within Team People, and the Payroll Coordinator does not report to the Controller. The Controller’s payroll responsibility is focused on financial accuracy, reconciliation, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and final financial review.

The Controller reports to the SVP of Finance and maintains a functional partnership with the Chief People Officer specifically for payroll governance and pre-processing review.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, financial close, and audit preparation required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and applicable financial accounting standards required.
  • Experience reviewing payroll from an accounting, reconciliation, compliance, or financial-control perspective required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify financial discrepancies, evaluate risk, and implement effective internal controls.
  • Experience working collaboratively across functional areas.
  • Healthcare and/or nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in a complex, multi-site, or highly regulated organization preferred.
  • Experience with payroll accounting, payroll tax reconciliation, and payroll-related audits preferred.
  • Experience with integrated financial, payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping systems preferred.

Licensure

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant professional accounting certification preferred but not required.
