Full Job Description
The controller has primary responsibility for maintaining the firm's financial records. The financial controller is responsible for maintenance and operation of the entire accounting system, including the gathering and reporting of timely and accurate financial information to management, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to strategic financial decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of success in a similar role.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls.
  • Designs and maintains chart of accounts and general ledger to assure financial and cost reporting that enables decision makers to optimize the performance of the organization in meeting strategic goals and objectives.
  • Prepare forecast reports for income, expenses, and earnings.
  • Assists with tax schedules and coordinates with our tax accountant to ensure that corporate income tax compliance and other necessary corporate and tax filings are accurate. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements are accurate.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements and ensure that accounting activities are in compliance with GAAP.
  • Monitor project financial performance, revenue recognition, utilization, and profitability metrics within a professional services environment.
  • Maintain benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
  • Partner with CFO to support firm leadership regarding budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Assists operational managers in understanding financial performance data and utilizing to optimize business functions.
  • Supports CFO with financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • Ensures all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Assist CFO with budget and forecasting activities.
  • Lead and mentor accounting team members, fostering professional growth, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Perform analysis of financial results, trends, costs, and budgets.
  • Implement and optimize financial software to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Create and implement procedures to make the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and year-end analyses.
  • Remain current with financial technology trends and recommend improvements to financial systems and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience.
  • CPA, CMA, or Master's degree a plus.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience in a professional services environment such as architecture, engineering, consulting, construction, or similar industries preferred.
  • Knowledge of payroll, general ledger accounting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication including effective listening, comprehension, and nonverbal communication.
  • Demonstrated internal and external client relations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including collaboration and negotiation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Capacity to manage pressure and perform effectively in a dynamic work setting.
  • Proficient with MS Office. Familiar with other software such as Bluebeam/Adobe, Deltek Vantagepoint, etc. strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Deltek Vision, BST, or other project-based ERP systems.
  • High degree of integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
