This is a high-impact role for an experienced CPA who combines strong technical accounting expertise with a builder mindset. You will own the company's day-to-day financial operations while helping establish the processes, controls, and reporting infrastructure needed to support a growing startup environment. We are looking for someone who is strategic when needed, but equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves and executing.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and present timely financial reporting, cash flow analysis, and operational insights to leadership.
- Develop and maintain scalable financial processes, controls, and reporting systems to support company growth.
- Oversee corporate tax compliance, HST filings, payroll remittances, and coordination with external tax advisors.
- Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, banks, and other financial partners.
- Ensure compliance with federal and Ontario regulatory requirements and maintain strong internal controls.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement across finance operations, systems, and workflows.
- Act as a trusted partner to leadership by providing financial guidance, analysis, and operational support.
Qualifications- CPA designation in good standing in Ontario.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant experience in a Controller or senior finance leadership capacity.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, financial reporting, corporate tax, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working in a startup, high-growth, or entrepreneurial environment preferred.
- Hands-on operator who is comfortable managing both strategic finance responsibilities and day-to-day accounting execution.
- Strong systems and process orientation with experience improving financial infrastructure and controls.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with leadership and external stakeholders.
