Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Controller is a hands-on accounting role, handling all daily accounting and finance responsibilities. This position requires the ability to work independently and autonomously on a wide range of financial duties including accounting, reporting, analyses, GAAP, payroll, and internal policies and procedures in order to provide accurate and timely financial statements. This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE values and expectations.

Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Controller are categorized into four areas:

 

Management

  • Oversee the accounting operations staff and encompassing all entities, especially control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures and all duties are aligned appropriately with optimum internal controls.
  • Ensures Accounting team achieves month-end close and year-end close deadlines are achieved.
  • Lead with compassion, composure, and maturity.

    Transactions

  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner with accurate and efficient work and data flow.
  • Ensure that accounts receivable timely billed and collected promptly.
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting folder and storage system
  •  

    Reporting

  • Issue timely close, and complete financial statements and analysis
  • Identify and resolve variances from the budget or forecast and report significant issues to management.
  • Ensuring all accounts are timely reconciled and reconciling items properly identified with resolution and next steps.
  • Provide for a system of management reports
  •  

    Compliance

     

  • Diving the year-end audit requests with external auditors for the annual audits.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  •  

     

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    As assigned by the Director of Finance and Accounting Compliance and/or CFO.

     

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    This position has supervisory responsibility for 5 FTE members of the Accounting Team and other Finance Team Members as directed.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

     

  • Active Professional CPA designation or Master’s Degree in finance related field; B.S. in Accounting required.
  • Ten years of professional accounting experience with progressive levels of responsibility with a minimum of five year’s experience at the management level.
  • Hands on experience with general ledger, monthly closing procedures, monthly issuance of financial statements, variance, and analytical reports.
  • Prior experience defining and refining internal procedures. 
  • Solid technical knowledge related to work assignments and willingness to take ownership of all accounting functions. 
  • Excellent understanding of accounting, reporting systems and payble and banking automation required.
  • Experience with budget tools a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, critical/analytical thinking, and computer skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of management, clients, and vendors
